Spartans Volleyball Fall in Season Openers

University of Dubuque volleyball team dropped their opening pair of games at the Sugar Loaf Classic to Saint Mary’s and St. Catherine by the scores of 3-0 and 3-1, respectively.

Volleyball Opening Weekend at St. Mary's Sugarloaf Classic

The University of Dubuque opened the second day of the Sugarloaf Classic with a hard fought 1-3 loss to Gustavus Adolphus College. The Spartans jumped out quickly and captured the opening set 25-20, before Gustavus rallied back to capture the next three by scores of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-15. In set three the lead swapped six times and match was tied another eight times. In the final match of the tournament, the Spartans faced UW-La Crosse and lost another close battle 0-3 by set scores of 18-25, 19-25, and 23-25 with 10 lead changes and a tie score 21 times.

Spartans Volleyball Open at Home in Tripleheader

The University of Dubuque played host on Tuesday to a tripleheader with UW-Oshkosh and Edgewood College in Stoltz Sports Center. UD opened the night with a 1-3 loss to UW-Oshkosh, but rallied in the nightcap to lose a heartbreaking five set match 2-3 to Edgewood. Edgewood lost a five set match to undefeated UW-Oshkosh (6-0 overall) by score of 2-3.

Volleyball Seeking First Win at Home

The University of Dubuque volleyball team welcomed special guest announcer Katie Wiedemann from KCRG-TV on Tuesday night to Stoltz Sports Center. The Spartans dropped the first set before rallying back to even the match at 1-1.

The University of Dubuque volleyball team helped kick off an exciting Homecoming Week with a 3-1 victory over the Simpson College Storm on Tuesday evening. UD swept the first two sets by scores of 25-18, 27-25, but the Storm fought back in the third set to capture it 25-21. The final set was all Spartans after they jumped out to an early lead and captured the match with a fourth set score 25-20.

Teams competeing are: UD, Loras College, UW-Platteville, and UW-Whitewater. Games times are scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Spartans Secure #6 Seed in IIAC Volleyball Tournament

The University of Dubuque volleyball team qualified for the 2014 Iowa Conference Volleyball Tournament as the #6 seed despite losing on the final night of the regular season to Loras 1-3. Loras earned the #5-seed with the victory and will travel to Pella to play Central on Tuesday night as UD will make the long journey down highway 20 to Storm Lake to play BV. Game times are set for 7:00 p.m.
