    Spartans Improve to #8 in NSCAA Poll - RV in D3soccer.com Top 25

    The University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer team moved up two spots to eighth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire NCAA Division III North Region Poll. UD also received votes (13) in the D3soccer.com Top 25. The Spartans have outscored the opposition 14-4 on their way to a 4-0 record.

    Men's Soccer Ends in Draw with UW-Platteville

    The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team continued it's non-conference schedule with another top notch opponent on Wednesday night. The Spartans made the short trip across the Dubuque-Wisconsin Bridge to take on UW-Platteville, the preseason pick to win the WIAC. UD and UW-P played a physical game for all 110:00 minutes which ended in a 0-0 tie.

    Spartans Open Fall with Three Wins

    The University of Dubuque men's golf team has been as hot as the fall weather this fall after placing in the top of all three meets they have entered. UD tied for the win at Edgewood College Fall Invite, won the Loras Fall Invite and cruised to a seven stroke victory at the Sept. 8-9 Midwest Region Golf Classic held at Trappers Turn golf course in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. (Full results from the meet are still pending.) UD had two individuals place in the Top-5 overall. Eric Wolfe was runner-up medalist and Martin Odegard placed fourth for the Spartans.

    Women's Golf Opens 2013 Season

    The University of Dubuque Women's Golf team began the 2013 season at the Wartburg Women's Fall Invite. The Spartans finsihed 11th in the 15 team field. Freshman Danielle Brown led the team with a score of 168 (+24), good for a tie for 26th place. UD finished third among the six Iowa Conference school playing in the event.

    Spartans Lose Third Sets and Match

    The University of Dubuque women's tennis team began Saturday morning with a sweep of doubles winning #2 and #3 doubles to take an early match lead 2-1 over the Buena Vista University Beavers before losing the match 3-6. Stephanie LoCasto and Marissa Rutenbeck at #2 doubles won 9-7 after being down early in the match. Alexandra Dixon and Janine Wegner captured #3 doubles 8-2.

    The University of Dubuque football team held a 7-0 lead after the first quarter of action Saturday night, but lost to #9-ranked UW-Platteville by a 24-38 score.

    Women's Cross Country Takes Ninth at Les Duke Invite

    The University of Dubuque Women's Cross Country team was finally able to get their season started after having the first scheduled race of the year cancelled because of heat. The Spartans came ready to run at the Les Duke Invitational hosted by Grinnell College taking ninth place in the 12 team field. The top finisher for UD was Brenda Nava in 27th place with a time of 24:36 on the 6K course.

    Men's Cross Country Finishes 11th at Grinnell

    The University of Dubuque Men's Cross Country team opened the 2013 season on Saturday morning at the Les Duke Invitational hosted by Grinnell College. The Spartans finished 11th of 14 teams. UD had its opening meet at Illinois Wesleyan cancelled because of heat concerns. The top finisher for Dubuque was Payton Nevills in 25th place at 27:19 on the 8K course.

    Spartans Win vs. Illinois Wesleyan

    The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon at home against Illinois Wesleyan. The Spartans 3-1 win over IWU was the 53rd for Head Coach Brad Johnson making him the winningest coach in the programs 13 year history. Dubuque is now 1-3-1 on the year.

    Women's Soccer Remains Perfect

    The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer team improved to 5-0 on the year with a 1-0 victory over Dominican University. The Spartans 5-0 start matches the 2002 team for the best start in school history. UD finished with a 26-6 lead in shots and 15-2 advantage in corner kicks.

    The University of Dubuque Women's Golf team finished in sixth place at the Viterbo Invitational on Sunday. The Spartans leader for the weekend was Lauren Smith in 15th place with a 175.

    Men's Golf Second at Clarke Fall Classic

    The Spartans men's golf team placed second at the Clarke University Fall Classic and were led in scoring by a pair of Spartans who placed sixth, Eric Wolfe and Mitchell Sobotta both finished with a total of 150 over the two day meet which had 76 competitors.

    Spartans to Host 5th Annual Men's Golf Invitational

    The University of Dubuque will be hosting their 5th Annual Men's Golf Invitational on Sept. 21-22 at Dubuque Golf and Country Club in Dubuque. Founded in 1898, the Dubuque Golf and Country Club is one of a very select few private country clubs west of the Mississippi that are over 110 years old.

    Spartans Continue to Climb in Polls

    The University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer team once again moved up two spots in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire NCAA Division III North Region Poll with their #6 ranking this week. The Spartans also received 29 points in the D3soccer.com Top 25. UD is one of 21 remaining undefeated teams in all of NCAA DIII Women’s Soccer.

    University of Dubuque senior Morgan Werkheiser (Stockton, Ill./Stockton) has been named IIAC Volleyball (Defensive) Performer of the Week. Werkheiser finished the week with 62-digs in 13 sets as the Spartans went 3-0.

    The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team once again found themselves headed into overtime against a top notch opponent on Tuesday night. The Spartans are now 0-2-1 in overtime matches after the 1-0 loss to UW-Whitewater on Oyen Field. UD is now 1-4-1 on the year.

    The University of Dubuque Men’s Basketball team and coaching staff spent its Thursday afternoon helping the city of Dubuque clean-up the historic Port of Dubuque area. The 2013 Iowa Conference Tournament Champion Spartans spent the afternoon pulling weeds and laying mulch near the National Mississippi River Museum.

    The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team once again found themselves going toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the region on Friday night. The Spartans 1-0 loss to North Park University was the fourth one goal loss in just seven games played. UD is now 1-5-1 on the season.

    The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer team seen its six game winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon on the road at St. Catherine's University. The Spartans 1-0 loss to St. Kate's came after a five game home stand in which they outscored their opponents 16-5. UD is now 6-1-0 on the season.

    The University of Dubuque men's golf team opened their own fall invitational on Saturday with a record breaking round of 284. The Spartans white team is in third place overall (308) of the 18 teams competing in the two day tournament held at Dubuque Golf and Country Club in Dubuque.

    Spartans Rally on Road

    The University of Dubuque football team dug themselves a giant hole to begin on Saturday night against the Stevens Point Pointers after turning the ball over in three out four of their first possessions in the game. The Spartans in a blink of an eye were down 0-21 to the host Pointers in the opening quarter of play. UD responded by holding the Pointers to just one touchdown in the final three quarters and outscored them 28-10. As time ran out, the Pointers captured the victory by a slim margin of 31-28 at home.

    Spartans Dominate 2013 UD Fall Invite

    The University of Dubuque dominated their own fall invitational this weekend, claiming the title by 27 strokes over second place. The Spartans first day 284 team total set a school record on the opening day and they finished the final day with the lowest two day team score (36 holes) in school history, a 576.

    The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer team picked up their seventh victory of the year on Wednesday afternoon. After suffering its first loss of the season on Saturday, the Spartans rebounded with a 3-1 win at Monmouth College (5-3-0). Dubuque held the Scots to zero shots on goal in the second half. UD is now 7-1-0 on the year.

    The University of Dubuque men's golf team continues their fall schedule domination on Wednesday afternoon by winning the 2013 Elmhurst Men's Golf Fall Invitational held at Oakbrook Country Club with a team score of 285, a three stroke under par finish. The three under par is the lowest round the team has completed this school year.

    The University of Dubuque Women's Cross Country team placed 19th of 33 teams at the 2013 Brissman/Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College. The Spartans showed fresh legs after nearly two weeks of preperation. Brenda Nava was the top finisher for UD at 24:46.1, good for 93rd of 415 total runners.

    Nevills Leads Spartans at Brissman/Lundeen

    The University of Dubuque Men's Cross Country team finished 25th of 35 teams at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational on Friday night. Sophomore Payton Nevills led the Spartans with a time of 26:51.0, the ninth fastest time in UD history at 8,000 meters. Nevills took 80th of 491 total runners.

    The 2013 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Women's Golf Championship begins this weekend, September 27-28, with the first 36 holes of the 72-hole Championship.

    The Spartans shot an opening weekend score of 393 at the 2013 IIAC Women's Golf Championships held at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls on Sept. 27-28. UD will continue play next weekend at Elmcrest in Cedar Rapids.

    The University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer team went head-to-head with one of the nation’s top teams on Saturday afternoon at Oyen Field. The Spartans took #14 Loras to double overtime before losing 3-2. As the rain picked up in the second half, UD turned up the aggression on the offensive end of the field leading to two goals. Dubuque is now 7-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in Iowa Conference action.

    Men's Soccer Opens IIAC Action at Home

    The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team opened the 2013 Iowa Conference regular season with the defending champions on Saturday afternoon at Oyen Field. The Spartans have a good measuring stick in which to view the remainder of their season after a 2-0 loss to Loras, a national semifinalist in 2012. UD went toe-to-toe with Loras for the final 70 minutes after two Duhawk goals between the 15 and 19 minute mark of the first half.

    Spartans Keep Dutch Winless in League Play

    The Universty of Dubuque volleyball team captured the Iowa Conference match-up on Tuesday night on Jon Davison Court over the Central College Dutch by a 3-2 score (25-22, 12-25, 25-23, 25-27, 15-12). The two squads were a vision of balance, one team would surge, then the other would rally back. In the end it was the Spartans capturing the fifth set and match by a 15-12 score.
