    Spartan Women's Soccer Hold Beavers Scoreless

    The University of Dubuque women's soccer team earned their sixth shut-out of the season on Saturday after taking the contest over the Buena Vista University Beavers 3-0. UD led 1-0 after the opening period after a goal by Megan Siepler in 35:28, the Spartans extended their led to 2-0 just three minutes into the second half when Melanie Prudhomme scored at 48:52. Katie Lynn added a third Spartan goal at 60:51.

    The University of Dubuque men's golf team opened with a round of 310, shot a 315 on day two of Twin Cities Classic Tournament, and fired the third lowest score on Monday (307) to finish tied for 12th overall of the 19 team tournament.

UD's Arantxa Martinez had a lone #1 singles match left in the regular Iowa Conference season.     Spartans Unbeaten in IIAC After Loras Victory

    The University of Dubuque women's soccer team scored first and held a lead throughout most of the game on Wednesday evening, but needed two overtimes to complete the exciting victory over the Loras College Duhawks at the Rock Bowl by a score of 3-2. The last time the Spartans captured regular season victory over Loras was Oct. 21, 2009 which was also the Duhawks last regular season IIAC loss. The series since 2009 has provided three, double overtimes games. In 2009, the Spartans won the IIAC Tournament and advanced into the NCAA Division III National Championships.

    A chilly start to the final round of the 2014 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Women's Golf Championship with weather hovering at the 40 degree mark at tee-off on Saturday, proved to be better conditions than the previous round. The sun made it’s appearance through the clouds as the final groups finished the final nine holes along the picturesque fall foliage of the Dubuque Golf and Country Club.

    The University of Dubuque men's cross country team edged out the host Wisconsin Lutheran by five points to earn their first title of the season. The duo of Payton Nevills (27:25) and Alec Bass (27:26) paced the harriers with a sixth and seventh place finish overall on the 8K course in West Allis, Wis.

    Women's Soccer Capture 10th Win of Season at Oyen Field

    The University of Dubuque women's soccer team ranked #7 in North Region earned their 10th victory of the season and the 199th win for coach Jason Berna at UD. The Spartans jumped out to an early halftime lead 3-0 off goals by Megan Siepler (16:24), Melissa Sawyer (28:39), and Kyleigh McLaughlin (36:11) off an assist by Melanie Prudhomme. UD stretched it to 5-0 for a final over the Coe College Kohawks after McLaughlin added her second goal of the night at 62:29. Just 10 seconds later the Spartans scored again with Sawyer collecting her second goal of the night off a penalty kick.

    Big Plays Spoil Spartans Football Conference Opener

    The University of Dubuque football team scored first on Saturday on a 22 yard pass from Zach Fry to Tyler Rutenbeck to give the Spartans their only lead of the day. The host Luther College Norse responded by scoring the next four touchdowns on a 24 yard run, a 68 yard run, a 41 yard pass and a 33 yard run before UD's Fry would scamper from a yard out to cut the final score to 14-28 in favor of the Norse.

    Volleyball Spike Storm On Homecoming Week

    The University of Dubuque volleyball team helped kick off an exciting Homecoming Week with a 3-1 victory over the Simpson College Storm on Tuesday evening. UD swept the first two sets by scores of 25-18, 27-25, but the Storm fought back in the third set to capture it 25-21. The final set was all Spartans after they jumped out to an early lead and captured the match with a fourth set score 25-20.

    The University of Dubuque women’s soccer coach, Jason Berna, started the UD men’s and women’s program in 2001 and on Tuesday night earned his 200th combined victory after defeating North Central, 1-0.

    The Spartans homecoming game vs. the Simpson College Storm on Oct. 11, 2014 at 4:05 p.m. The Storm 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the IIAC will face the Spartans in front of a large boisterous crowd on Saturday as they try to capture the homecoming victory in football. The Spartans hosted the first "live" televised broadcast in the Iowa Conference in the fall of 2012.

    The University of Dubuque football team used a fake punt to nearly score in the first half after a gain of 26 yards by Mitch Michaelis. The play helped set-up a 25 yard touchdown pass from Zach Fry to Tyler Rutenbeck just six plays later. The #6-ranked Knights offense never slowed down as they scored all four chances inside the red zone on Saturday to defeat the Spartans 42-9.

UD clinched an IIAC Tournament spot with the win and are tied for first place in the league (4-1) with 12 pts.
