    Freshman Ernest Winters won the 200 meters with the 6th-best time in the nation and finished runner-up in the 55 meters in pacing the University of Dubuque men’s track & field team to a fourth-place finish at the Solomon W. Butler Classic on Saturday afternoon.

    Men's Basketball Lose at Buena Vista

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball team led by a point at halftime 46-45, but would be out scored in the final 20 minutes 40-32 as they dropped a road conference contest on Saturday afternoon to the Buena Vista University Beavers 78-85. The Beavers finished with four out of five starers in double digit scoring despite the Spartans holding the lead for 21:07.

    Trio of Spartans Grab IIAC Honors

    The University of Dubuque’s senior Jenna Kotas averaged 23.5 points and 11.5 rebounds for the women’s basketball team, junior Kebba Bojang triple jumped his way to two individual titles and freshman Ernest Winters won a pair of sprints in men’s track & field as the trio garnered one Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Player of the Week award and two Performer of the Week awards, respectively.

    Men's Basketball Defend Home Court, Cruise to 67-55 Victory over Duhawks

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball team bounced back after Saturday's road loss on Wednesday evening by defeating Loras College 67-55 on Jon Davison Court in Stoltz Sports Center. Mediacom taped the game for replay the last week of January for the fans in Dubuque. UD will host the 100th anniversary of McCormick Gymnasium on Saturday when the Spartans host the Simpson College Storm.

    Senior Brittany Collier would not be denied after going on an eight-point tear - punctuated by a pair of threes - with 1:22 remaining that gave the University of Dubuque women's basketball team their final lead in a 57-54 triumph over rival Loras on Wednesday night.

    Wrestling Hold Pioneers Scoreless in Dual Meet

    The University of Dubuque wrestling team left no dispute about the victor in Thursday night's dual meet at UW-Platteville. The match began at 141 lbs. and the Spartans Stephen Rosenburg opened the meet with a 12-2 major decision. The Pioneers wrestled well, but it was a total Spartan domination as they rolled off 10 consecutive wins to capture the meet 41-0.

    2015 Iowa Conference Duals

    The Iowa Conference are hosting team duals in two locations on Saturday. The Spartans travel to #1-ranked Wartburg and will wrestle Central College at 10:00 a.m., Buena Vista at 12:00 p.m. and finish with the hosts Wartburg College at 2:00 p.m. In Indianola, Simpson College host Coe College, Luther College, and Loras College.

UD led 15-3 in the first five minutes of Saturday's game and blew through the Storm 96-60. Saturday kicked off the 100th anniversary of McCormick Gymnasium, the former host of Spartan athletics for over 90+ years.

    The University of Dubuque wrestling team has a busy Iowa Conference week. Thursday night the #30-ranked Spartans (7-10 overall in dual meets) faced the #16-ranked Luther College Norse (10-6 in dual meets) and came up short 9-30. Freshman Joey Cisneros gave the Spartans a 3-0 lead after winning the 125 lbs. match in overtime 5-3. Elton Turnage-Manuel battled to a 3-2 victory at 174 lbs. and Dominic Sterr earned the 3-2 decision at 197 lbs.

    The #30-ranked University of Dubuque dropped just one match on Friday night en route to a 36-3 victory over the Simpson College Storm in Stoltz Sports Center. Nicholas Rivera captured a fall as time was expiring in the first period of the 133 lbs. match in 2:48. Kody Krenz won by fall in the 149 lbs. weight class in 4:31.

    Men's Basketball Stops Duhawks Offense

    The University of Dubuque men's basketball team led for 33:38 of the 40 minutes on Saturday and dominated the Iowa Conference match-up over the Loras College Duhawks 83-57. The Spartans led by 17 points at halftime and extended that lead to 27 points in the second half to improve to 15-4 overall and 6-3 in the IIAC and moved to within two games of the conference lead.

    Led by Nicole Forson’s victory in the women’s weight throw, the University of Dubuque women’s track and field throwers captured three of the Top-5 performances in both throwing events to lead UD to the Cornell Hilltop Invite title on Saturday afternoon.     The University of Dubuque Stoltz Sports Center thundered with a large crowd on hand to watch #30-ranked Spartans vs. Loras College Duhawks. UD jumped out to an early lead when they captured the opening two matches, but the Duhawks rallied back to take the middle weights. UD capped off the evening with a fall at 285, unfortunately for the Spartans, the Duhawks won the hard battled Iowa Conference dual 24-18.

    The University of Dubuque wrestling team for the second consecutive night would find itself facing another regional ranked team in #18 Cornell College. The Spartans and the Rams provided competitive matches throughout the night, with just one match being decided by a major decison in favor of the Spartans Nicholas Rivera at 133 lbs. when he captured the match 11-1. Just a handful of points would seperate the other nine weight classes which unfortunately came up short for UD on Senior Night on Friday by a score of 10-21 against Cornell.

    Winters Continues to Flourish After Setting School Record

    Ernest Winters doesn’t take breaks. He just breaks records. For the second week in a row, Winters dipped below 7.0 seconds in the 60m, this time breaking a University of Dubuque men’s track school record with a 6.89 at the UW-Platteville Invitational on Saturday. Winters’ time of 6.89 is the third straight personal record for the freshman, sits third in the nation, and leads the Iowa Conference (IIAC) by a wide margin heading into the conference meet in two weeks.
