    Wrestling Honored with Top-30 Academic Ranking by NWCA

    The National Westling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced the their academic awards for 2014-15 at the NCAA Division III National Championships this week. The University of Dubuque wrestling team earned the NWCA Academic Team Honor by being ranked #28 in the nation in overall team grade point average with a 3.27 GPA.

    The University of Dubuque softball team captured the sweep of Wartburg College Knights on Tuesday afternoon, winning the opener in a thrilling bottom of the seventh victory 3-2 and capturing the second game in a 8-6 victory. The Spartans improve to 2-0 in Iowa Conference play and will continue their IIAC season on Thursday when they host Loras College Duhawks in the Strike Out Cancer series beginning at 3:00 p.m. on April 2. Last season the two teams joined forces and raised over $1,300 for the local American Cancer Society.

    The University of Dubuque and Loras College softball teams joined forces for National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) StrikeOut Cancer game on Thursday and raised over $1,600 for the local American Cancer Society. The two schools would split the series with UD capturing game one by a 12-9 score before the Duhawks rallied to take game two by a 10-2 margin in five innings.

    The University of Dubuque men's golf team opened the 2015 Illinois Wesleyan University Spring Invite with a round of 307 and followed up wih a 317 on day two to place 12th in the competitive 20 team field with a two day total of 624. Josh Schuberg led the Spartans after he shot rounds of 74, 76 to finish tied for 14th overall with a two round score of 150. Troy Krueger shot rounds of 75, 76 (151) to tie for 18th overall. A field of 104 golfers competed in the two day invite.

    The University of Dubuque men's golf team opened with a round of 338 in the 2015 Augustana College Invite and putted their way to a round of 317 on the final day to finish with a two day total of 655 for eighth place overall out of 20 teams which competed. UD was led by Josh Schuberg who shots rounds of 84 and 73 to tie for 11th place overall with a score of 157.

    The University of Dubuque captured a split against #13-ranked Central College Dutch on Friday afternoon. The contest originally scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, was postponed due to inclement weather the past two days in Iowa. The Spartans captured the opener 3-1 and lost the nightcap 3-8. A short rest and the Spartans return home to host the Buena Vista University Beavers on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.

    Softball Returns Home to Split Against BVU

    The University of Dubuque softball team returned home on Saturday and captured a split with the Buena Vista University Beavers (13-14 overall, 4-4 in IIAC). The Spartans lost the opener when they allowed four runs to score in the first two innings on four hits. BVU held on to a 4-1 victory. UD once again fell behind early in the second game of the doubleheader by a 3-0 score after the first inning. UD added a run in the second and took the lead in the fifth when they scored three runs on four hits. BVU threatened at the top of the seventh with two runners on and one out until they hit into a doubleplay to stop any chance they had with the final score 4-3 in favor of the Spartans.
