    Spartan Men's Golf Tie for 3rd at Loras Spring Invite

    The University of Dubuque men's golf team continued their busy weekend and tied for third in the Loras College Spring Invite at Thunder Hills Country Club on Monday, April 13. The Spartans first round was a 306 and followed it up with a round of 300 to tie Simpson College. Josh Schuberg finished fourth with a score of 145 and teammate Chance Manternach won the tie-break for fifth place over AIB's Andy Frasier with a score of 146.

    Senior Judy Borah scored the game's first and last goals and assisted on a key goal in a back-and-forth affair that saw the University of Dubuque women's lacrosse team defeat Aurora University (Ill.), 13-12, on Monday afternoon.

    Softball Fall Short in Sweep of Pioneers

    The University of Dubuque softball team fell short in the two-game sweep on Monday afternoon. The Spartans used a late rally in game one to score four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take their first lead en route to a 4-3 victory for relief pitcher Amanda Williams over the visiting UW-Platteville Pioneers. UD led early in game two before the Pioneers scored three runs in the top of the sixth to stretch their lead to 6-4. The Spartans were held to a single run in the seventh to end their chances for another late run, losing by a 5-6 mark.

    Eastman's Lights Out Performance Leads to IIAC Honor

    Senior starter Josh Eastman tossed a 7.0-inning complete game shutout of No. 13 Wartburg on April 10 as he led the University of Dubuque baseball team to a Friday sweep and earned the Iowa Conference Pitcher of the Week award.

    Hernandez Wins #4 Singles Against Kohawks

    The University of Dubuque men's tennis team entered Tuesday's match with a tough opponent looming in league play. The #36-ranked Coe College Kohawks (16-4 overall, 5-0 in IIAC) made the short drive to Dubuque and quick work of the Spartans, taking the match 8-1. UD's Ranfer Hernandez playing #4 singles def. Matt Moore 2-6, 6-1, 12-10 for the lone Spartan victory. He improved to 11-6 overall in singles play.

    Softball Swept by #13-ranked UW-Whitewater

    The University of Dubuque softball team continued their busy week of eight games in seven days and faced a top contender in #13-ranked UW-Whitewater on their home field on Thursday. UD scored first in game one, but the hosts Warhawks pecked their way back into the game winning 8-1. In the nightcap, the Spartans trailed 2-5 after the top of the sixth when Meggie Schmidt launched a two RBI homerun. The hosts would score four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend the victory to 9-2 in favor of UW-Whitewater.

    The University of Dubuque is hosting the 2015 Outdoor Invitational on Saturday, April 18 beginning at 10:00 a.m. (field events) on Douglas J. Miller Track. Schools schedules to compete include: Beloit College, Clarke University, Cornell College, Knox College, Loras College, North Iowa Area Community College, Rockford University and University of Dubuque. Due to a baseball game scheduled on campus, the women's and men's javelin throw will be held at Loras College in Dubuque.

    Spartans Tennis Drop Match to Beavers

    The University of Dubuque men's tennis team entered Saturday with high hopes of inching their way closer into the IIAC Tournament berth with a much needed conference victory, but the visiting Buena Vista University Beavers held the same thoughts. The match would teter on the final match of the afternoon between UD's Jordan Hamling and BV's Robby Steffes. Hamling captured the first set 6-1 before losing the second set 3-6. A third tie break set would be for the match and Steffes took the third, 6-2 and ending the Spartans afternoon in defeat 4-5.

    Seven Wins Propel Men's Track and Field to Runner Up Finish

    Ernest Winters (100m), Deshond Robinson (400m), and Rick Valcin (pole vault) each earned an individual win then combined for a victory in the 4x100m relay and thrower Alex Link wins the discus with a school record toss to lead the University of Dubuque men's track and field team to a runner-up performance at the UD Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

    Spartans Qualify for the 106th Annual Drake Relays

    The 106th Annual Drake Relays is set to begin this week and the University of Dubuque men's and women's teams will be represented in one of the nations most prestigious track and field events. The Drake Relays begins on April 22 and will finish up on April 26 at Drake Stadium, ticket offices will open one hour prior to the start of each session. The women's team qualified two relays, the 4x100 and the 4x200, while UD's men's team qualified the returning NCAA National Division III Outdoor Champion, Rick Valcin, in the pole vault and Ernest Winters in the 100 meter dash, and the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.

    The University of Dubuque softball needed a sweep of the Simpson College Storm on Tuesday to clinch an IIAC Tournament berth. Unfortunately it was the Storm who blew into Dubuque and clinched after winning game one by an 8-3 score and sneaking out with a game two 7-5 victory when the Spartans left the bases loaded in the bottom of seventh inning.

    Alora Esparza, Breann Tjaarda, and Bridget Schirmers each scored three times for the University of Dubuque women's lacrosse team, but it fell short as the Spartans were held to just three goals in the second half of a 14-12 defeat to Rockhurst on Wednesday night.

    The University of Dubuque women's golf team placed fifth on Wednesday at the 2015 Clarke University Spring Invitational with a round of 446. The Par 72, 5,578 yard course played extremely tough in the chilled windy conditions with the top score being a +13 over Par 85.

    The University of Dubuque men's tennis team fought through blustery windy conditions at Frank Farber Tennis Courts on Wednesday in an Iowa Conference tilt with the Luther College Norse. The Spartans lost to the Norse 1-8 and dropped to 6-13 overall and 2-4 in the IIAC.

    2015 IIAC Men's Golf Championship Begins Play

    The 2015 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Men’s Golf Championship begins this weekend, Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25, with the first 36 holes of the 72-hole event at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City. Teams will tee off at 9 a.m. both days. The final 36 holes will be played May 1-2 at Thunder Hills Country Club in Peosta with teams teeing off beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday. Loras College is the host of the 2015 Iowa Conference Men’s Golf Championship.

    The University of Dubuque hosted the Loras College Duhawks in a dual golf meet on Monday at Lacoma Golf Course. UD's Lauren Smith was medalist with a round of 89 on the Par 71, 5,810 yard course, but Loras won the meet 411 to the Spartans 426.

    Third basemen Austin McWhite hit a solo home run and an RBI-double to set up third basemen Dalton Garst's walk-off sacrifice fly to win game one, 4-3, over Coe. A seven-run, seventh-inning by the Kohawks broke open a close game as the Spartans fell in game two, 10-3, on Monday afternoon.
