    Spartans at SMU Cardinal Invitational

    The University of Dubuque Volleyball team took part in the inaugural SMU Cardinal Invitational, hosted by St. Mary's University (MN) on Friday night and Saturday morning. The Spartans opened the weekend with a 3-1 win over Augustana before losing to #10 St. Benedict in their second match of the day. UD would lose both matches on Saturday 3-0 against St. Mary's and #19 Augsburg. Katelyn Herbig was named to the All-Tournament Team.

    Spartans Downed by Norse

    The University of Dubuque volleyball team rallied late in the third set before the visiting Luther College Norse captured the final set 25-23 to take the match 3-0. Luther captured the opening set with strong hitting 25-20 and held the Spartans hitters at bay in the second set by a 25-14 score.

    Spartans Shutout Cornell

    The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer team picked up their third shutout of the year with a 2-0 win against Cornell College. The Spartans victory was their seventh straight over Cornell with a combined score of 28-5 during the winning streak. UD took the lead early in the first half on a goal by Katie Lynn.

    Spartans Win in Overtime

    The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team is becoming quite familiar with overtime sessions after going into OT for the third straight game and sixth time this season. The Spartans beat Grinnell 1-0 in the 95th minute on a goal by Gonzalo Hernandez. UD held Grinnell without a shot in the first half.

    The University of Dubuque will induct the 2013 Athletics Hall of Fame Class on October 12, 2013. This year's honorees are: Greg Ortberg (Class of 2000) and the the 1959 Cross Country Team. Jerry Petitgoue (Class of 1963) will be inducted into the Hall of Distinction.

    Spartans Score Early in Homecoming Victory

    The University of Dubuque football team scored twice in just 5:06 of Saturday's game to remain perfect in Iowa Conference play with a 2-0 record. The Spartans shocked the Luther Norse with a nine play 49 yard scoring drive in 4:21 on a 10 yard pass from Bryan Bradshaw to Chris Bagley. The ensuing kick-off bounced off the Norse return specialist and the Spartans recovered on the Norse 10 yard line. Two plays later Kyle Acker rushed from six yards and a Spartan touchdown. The Spartans never trailed in the 56-20 victory over Luther College on homecoming.

    Spartans Win 50th IIAC Game

    The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer team won the 50th Iowa Conference Regular Season game in the programs history on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans used two second half goal, scored less than 20 seconds apart, to pull away from Coe for a 3-1 victory. Midfielder Katie Lynn assisted on all three UD goals.

    Spartans Win on the Road

    The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team picked up a hard earned IIAC road victory on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans 2-1 victory over Coe was their first road victory of the year. Gonzalo Hernandez scored what turned out to be the game winner on a Penalty Kick in the 80th minute of play.

    Duncan Named IIAC Performer of the Week

    University of Dubuque junior Tiffany Duncan was named IIAC Women’s Soccer (Defensive) Performer of the Week. Duncan recorded four saves in the Spartans 2-0 shutout win against Cornell. She won her 10th game of the year against Coe in which she had one save in the 2-1 victory.

    University of Dubuque freshman Gonzalo Hernandez was named IIAC Men’s Soccer (Offensive) Performer of the Week. Hernandez scored two game winning goals to help UD to a 2-0 record in the week.

    Busjahn Leads Spartans at Coe

    The University of Dubuque Women’s Cross Country team competed at the Lamb/Kohawk Invitational hosted by Coe College on Saturday morning. The Spartans finished fifth of five teams with 112 points. Rachael Busjahn led UD with a ninth place finish at 24:41.1 on the 6,000 meter course at Noelridge Park.

    Men's Cross Country Finishes Sixth at Lamb/Kohawk Invite

    The University of Dubuque Men’s Cross Country team took part in the Lamb/Kohawk Invitational. The Spartans finished in sixth place with 155 points. Jordan Murray edged teammate Javier Rodriguez by .3 seconds as the top UD finisher on the 8,000 meter course at Noelridge Park.

    Spartans Lose Defensive Showdown

    The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer was unable to get the offense going on Wednesday night at UW-Platteville. The Spartans 1-0 loss to the Pioneers featured two teams with shutdown defenses. UD boastes a 1.06 goals against average while UWP holds a 1.13 goals against average. The sixth ranked regionally Spartans are 10-4-0 on the year.

    Spartans Bitten by Kohawks on the Road

    The University of Dubuque volleyball team dropped a league match on Wednesday evening to the host Coe College Kohawks by a 0-3 score. Set scores were 19-25, 21-25, 16-25. Despite the loss for the Spartans, they remain battling for the final qualifying spot for the IIAC Tournament. The Spartans are in a three-way tie for the final spot with Buena Vista University and Central College with 1-4 IIAC records.

    Spartans Victorious Over #21-Ranked Coe

    The battle of the unbeatens in Iowa Conference play on Saturday was reduced by one on Saturday. The University of Dubuque Spartans (4-2 overall, 3-0 in IIAC) scored early and often as they captured the contest over the #21-ranked Coe College Kohawks on their homecoming by a 38-14 score. It was the Kohawks first loss of the season and dropped them to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in IIAC action.

    Spartans Improve to 7-1 at Home

    The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer team tied a school record for home wins in a season with their seventh win of the year on Oyen Field. The Spartans defeated Wartburg 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Alexandra Watkins became the fourth Spartan to score 100 career points with her game winning goal in the 72nd minute of play.

    Spartans Lose to #14 Wartburg

    The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team once again found themselves matched up with one of the nations top teams. The Spartans pushed #14 Wartburg to the very end but lost 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. UD held Wartburg without a shot on goal in the first half.

    Six Spartans PR at Dr. Tucker Invite

    The University of Dubuque Women's Cross Country team found its stride on Friday afternoon at the Dr. Tucker Invitational hosted by Loras College. Running at the Dubuque Soccer Complex, six of seven UD runners finished with new personal record times at 6,000 meters. Rachel Busjahn paced the Spartans in 18th place at 24:20.5, the ninth fastest time in UD history.

    Men's Cross Country at Dr. Tucker

    The University of Dubuque Men's Cross Country team took advantage of the opportunity to run in town at the Dubuque Soccer Complex by competing in the Dr. Tucker Invitational, hosted by Loras College. UD and Loras each use the Soccer Complex as their home course so the Spartans were familiar with the terrain. Payton Nevills led Dubuque through the 8,000 meter course with a time of 27:29.3 and 12th place.

    Spartans Receive Votes in D3football Top 25 and Coaches Poll

    The University of Dubuque Football team is beginning to receive national recognition in the polls after their 38-14 win over previously unbeaten Coe College. UD received 14 votes in the D3football Top 25 for Week 7 and 13 votes in the AFCA Division III Coaches Poll. The Spartans are off to a 4-2 start and sit atop the Iowa Conference at 3-0.

    Bradshaw Named Iowa Conference Male Athlete of the Week

    University of Dubuque senior Bryan Bradshaw was named Iowa Conference Male Athlete of the Week and IIAC Football (Offensive) Performer of the Week. Bradshaw completed 17 of 26 passes for 311 yards and five touchdowns in the Spartans 38-14 victory over previously unbeaten Coe College.

    Spartans Shutout Carthage

    The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer team came out on top in a match-up of regionally ranked teams on Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans 1-0 win against Carthage College set a school record for home wins in a single season with eight victories. UD finished with a 22-14 advantage in shots.

    The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team bounced back after a tough loss on Saturday against #14 Wartburg with a 2-1 victory over North Central College (6-6-3). The Spartans victory against NCC came as a result of two second half goals and numerous spectacular stops by the Dubuque defense.

    The University of Dubuque Spartans were looking to remain unbeaten in Iowa Conference play on Saturday, but the visiting Wartburg College Knights scored on a 17 yard pass play with :35 seconds left of the game to take the lead and the victory by a 22-15 score.

    The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer team left little doubt that they would be celebrating a victory on Senior Day. The Spartans came away with a 6-0 victory over Buena Vista on Saturday afternoon at Oyen Field. UD held a 33-3 advantage in shots for the game including a 19-1 lead in the first period.

    The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team continued its strong finish to the 2013 regular season with a 4-0 victory against Buena Vista. The Spartans have won four of their last five games while outscoring their opponents 10-4 in those games. Senior Cory Winkler scored three goals on Senior Day.

    University of Dubuque junior Kelsey Graefen (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) was named IIAC Women’s Soccer (Defensive) Performer of the Week. Graefen scored the game winning goal on a header against Carthage. The Spartans did not allow a goal last week.

    UD Wrestling Ranked 25th in NWCA Coaches Poll

    The University of Dubuque Wrestling team is ranked 25th in the NWCA Preseason D-III Poll. The Spartans are coming off a 2012-13 season in which they finished with a 10-8 overall record and tied for third place in the IIAC at 4-3. UD returns three National Qualifiers and four All-Iowa Conference honorees.

    Spartans Finish Regular Season at 14-4

    The University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer team wrapped up the regular season with a 1-0 win against Simpson on Tuesday afternoon. The victory was the fourth straight for the Spartans. Alexandra Watkins game winning goal was the 12th of her career, tying a school record. Dubuque finished the regular season with a 14-4-0 record and tied for second place in the Iowa Conference at 5-2.

    The University of Dubuque Men’s Soccer team will be forced to make a return trip to Simpson after losing 3-0 on Tuesday night. The loss makes the Spartans the five seed in the upcoming Iowa Conference Tournament and will face the fourth seeded Storm. UD finished the regular season with a 6-10-1 overall record and 3-4 in the Iowa Conference.

    Spartans Earn #5 Seed in IIAC Tourney

    The University of Dubuque volleyball team overcame a pressure situation on Wednesday night. The Spartans captured set one 25-19 before losing the following two matches (21-25, 22-25). Facing a near end of their conference season, the Spartans responded by taking the fourth set 25-21 and carrying the momentum into the fifth set where they captured the match and the set with a 15-13 score.

    The University of Dubuque volleyball team swept past the Aurora University Spartans on Senior Night on Friday by a 3-0 match score. The Spartans set scores were 25-23, 25-18, 25-21.

    Spartans Lose High Scoring, Record Breaking Day

    The University of Dubuque football began the afternoon looking to hold on to a tie for the conference lead, but for the second week in a row, UD lost the lead in the final seconds. UD led 46-43 with 1:31 left in the contest with the ball on the Simpson 35 yard line. The Storm scored on a touchdown to the corner of the endzone capping off a six play 65 yard drive in just :58 seconds. UD moved the ball ball inside the Storm 48 yard line with just :02 left on the clock. As time ran out the Spartans last pass attempt to the endzone was knocked away by a Storm defender.

    Men's Cross Country at IIAC Championships

    The University of Dubuque Men's Cross Country team finished in eighth place at the Iowa Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning. The 8,000 meter race at the Central College Cross Country Course proved to be a difficulty course for the group. Payton Nevills led UD with a time of 26:56.0 in 26th place.

    Spartans Seventh at IIAC Championships

    The University of Dubuque Women's Cross Country team finished in seventh place at the 2013 IIAC Cross Country Championships, hosted by Central. The Spartans top finisher on the 6,000 meter course was Fabiola Ortiz in 30th place overall at 24:43.2. A total of 120 runners competed on Saturday morning at the Central College Cross Country Course. UD will now begin preparing for the NCAA DIII Central Regional at St. Olaf College on November 16th.
