DUBUQUE, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Volleyball team won its first Iowa Conference game of the season on Wednesday night. The Spartans beat Buena Vista 3-sets to 1 (25-23, 24-26, 25-20, 25-19). UD improves to 7-5 on the season and 1-1 in the Iowa Conference.Â
Leading the Spartans attack with a .333 attack percentage and 14 kills was Susan Danielewski (Lansing, Ill./THornton Fractional South). Klaudia Basierak (Hainesville, Ill./Grayslake) with 14 kills and Amy Tranel (Hazel Green, Wis./Southwestern) with 10 kills also reached double figures. Assisting on 34 of the Spartans 42 total kills was Meggie Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton). Schmidt also chipped in with a team high four service aces.
Basierak led UD with two solo and three assisted blocks. Jen Pohlman (West Branch, Iowa/West Branch) finished with three assisted blocks. Leading the Spartan back row with ten digs was Danielewski. Basierak, Caitlin Simbeck (Bayfield, Colo./Bayfield) and Nicole Toro (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland) all finished with seven digs.
UP NEXT: The Spartans will play in the Wheaton Invitational on September 21st and 22nd. UD will start the weekend with a 4:00 pm game against North Central and a 6:30 pm game vs. Lebanon Valley. Saturdays action will begin at 10:00 am versus Wheaton College. The final game of the weekend will be a noon start against Loras.
