WAVERLY, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer team faced off with #23 Wartburg College on Saturday afternoon but were unable to pull off the upset of the nationally ranked Knights. The Spartans lost the game, 5-1 with Alexandra Watkins (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) scoring the UD goal. UD is now 2-5-1 on the season and 0-1 in the Iowa Conference.
Trailing 3-0 at the half, Watkins scored early in the second half to get the Spartans within striking distance at 3-1. However, UD was unable to get another shot on goal for the rest of the game despite numerous good looks.
Watkins and Lisa Rosas (Arcadia, Calif./Arcadia) each finished with two shot attempts.
Chelsea Hawkins (Maryville Heights, Mo./Pattonville) started the game in net finishing with seven saves and three goals allowed in the first half. Loisann DeLass (Albuquerque, N.M./Hohenfels) played the second half, recording six saves and two goals allowed.
UP NEXT: The Spartans will return to Oyen Field on Wednesday, September 26 against UW-Platteville (2-5-0) at 7:00 pm.
