DUBUQUE, IOWA - University of Dubuque student-athlete Nick McDonald (Cary, Ill./Cary Grove) has been named Third Team D3soccer.com Men's All-American. He is the first UD Men's Soccer player to earn the honor of All-American. McDonald finished the season with 21 goals and seven assists to lead UD to a second place finish in the Iowa Conference (IIAC). The Spartans finished the season with an 11-6-1 record and ranked ninth in the final NSCAA North Region Poll.
McDonald finished the year in the Top Ten of all of NCAA Division III in numerous categories. He finished second in goals per game (1.23) and points per game (2.88). His 21 goals and 49 points also placed him seventh in Division III.
A First Team All-Iowa Conference performer for the third time, McDonald led the IIAC in goals (21), goals per game (2.88), points (49), points per game (2.88), game winners (6), shots (75), and shots per game (4.41). He also finished second in assists per game with 0.41. McDonald was named Iowa Conference Performer of the Week three times during the 2012 season. A four time All-IIAC performer, McDonald earned First Team Forward in 2011 and 2012 while also being named First Team Defense in 2010 and Second Team Defense in 2009.
The senior finished his four years at UD as the all-time leader in career goals (49), points (110), shots (235), game winners (15), games played (76), and games started (76). He is also the only Spartans soccer player to be named NSCAA All-Region three times. The past four years the Spartans reached new heights of success, finishing the period with an overall record of 52-20-5. In conference play, UD finished 24-7-0 with an IIAC Championship in 2010, second place finishes in 2009 and 2012, and third place in 2011. Dubuque took full advantage of the home field with a 28-6-3 record at Oyen Field, good for a .757 winning percentage.
