Spartans Down Duhawks, Finish 3rd in IIAC

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque captured their 19th win of the season en route to an easy victory at home in front of a vocal capacity crowd in Stoltz Sports Center over the Loras Duhawks by a 67-52 victory. 

The Spartans led by as many as 24 points on senior day after trailing in the early going by just two points. Chris Frazier led the Spartans offense with 14 points and was a perfect 7-7 at the free throw line. Jordan Townsend and Mitch Michaelis added 11 points each. Miles Hookstead grabbed six of his seven rebounds offensively as he would finish with nine points. 

UD forced the Duhawks into committing 18 turnovers and scored 21 points. The Spartans utilized their bench and out scored the Duhawk reserves 37-12. UD also out rebounded the guest Duhawks 37-31. UD made 22-53 shot attempts (41.5%) and finished the day sinking 19-26 free throw attempts (73.1%). 

The victory helped the Spartans to a third place finish in the Iowa Conference (9-5, 19-6 overall) and the loss dropped Loras to last place in the league (3-11 record) and knocked them out of the 2013 IIAC Tournament. The Spartans will continue play on Tuesday in the First Round of the IIAC Tournament when they play the #6 seed Simpson College (3-11, 7-18 overall) at 8:00 p.m.

Luther wins tiebreaker over Buena Vista (split H2H; both 1-1 vs. #3 Dubuque; Luther 4-0 vs. WAR/COE, BVU only 3-1). Wartburg wins tiebreaker over Coe (split H2H; Wartburg 1-3 vs. LUT/BVU, COE 0-4 vs. LUT/BVU) Simpson wins 3-way tiebreaker over CEN/LOR (H2H: SIM 3-1, CEN 2-2, LOR 1-3)
