Men's Tennis Set for IIAC Individual Championships

2013-14 Men's Tennis Individual Tournament hosted by Central College

DUBUQUE, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Men's Tennis team is set to compete at the 2013 Iowa Conference Individual Tournament on Friday, September 20th and Saturday, September 21st. The 2013 championships are hosted by Central College.

There will be three flights of singles and two flights of doubles. Flight A play in both singles and doubles will be held at Caldwell Park, Flight B at Pella Christian High School and Flight C at Central College. Tournament play will begin with first-round singles matches at 8:00 a.m. on Friday. Play will continue through the quarterfinals in all three flights. The players will turn their attention to doubles play on Friday afternoon with play again continuing through the quarterfinals.

Competing for the Spartans in Flight "A" Singles are Nikolay Gospodinov (Mons, Belguim/SHAPE) and Dishon Deering (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs). In 2012, the Spartans Nick Garcia won the Flight "A" Championship.

Returners Trevor Calahan (Aberdeen, Md./Wurzburg), Andrew Drummond (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West), and Sean O'Meara (Henderson, Nev./Rancho) will play in Flight "C" Singles. Freshman Matthew Kilburg (Maquoketa, Iowa/Maquoketa) and Duy Nguyen (Davenport, Iowa/Davenport North) are also competing in Flight "C".  

In doubles, Deering and Gospodinov will pair up and compete in the Flight "A" Doubles Championship Tournament. O'Meara/Drummond and Calahan/Kilburg will play in Flight "B" of the doubles tournament.

Semifinals and place matches in all five flights will be held Saturday with singles semifinals taking the courts at approximately 8:00 a.m.
