MOUNT VERNON, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer team picked up their third shutout of the year with a 2-0 win against Cornell College. UD took the lead early in the first half on a goal by Katie Lynn (Fox River Grove, Ill./Barrington). Dubuque improved to 9-3 on the season.
The Spartans wasted little time getting on the scoreboard with a goal by Lynn in the 10th minute of action. Watkins took a quick touch before finding Lynn in the box to put UD ahead 1-0.
UD controlled the first half with a 13-4 lead in shots and 5-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Spartans also out shot Cornell 5-1 in shots on goal on their way to a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The teams would go back-and-forth for most of the second half before Watkins scored her 10th goal of the year in the 84th minute. Sawyer picked up her second assist of the game on the Watkins goal. Watkins goal was the 40th of her career.
Tiffany Duncan (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union) earned the shutout victory with four saves.
