PELLA, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Men's Cross Country team finished in eighth place at the Iowa Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning. The 8,000 meter race at the Central College Cross Country Course proved to be a difficulty course for the group. Payton Nevills (Savanna, Ill./West Carroll) led UD with a time of 26:56.0 in 26th place. The top-six finishers for Dubuque were all sophomores. The Spartans must now turn their attention towards the NCAA DIII Central Regional at St. Olaf on November 16th.
Central won it's second straight men's title with a score of 31, including each of the first three place winners.
The second Spartans runner across the finish line was Matt Zittritsch (Humboldt, Iowa/Humboldt) in 79th place at 28:46.8. Jordan Murray (DeWitt, Iowa/Central DeWitt) finished at 29:26.9 for 92nd overall and third on UD. David Ploenzke (Prophetstown, Ill./Prophetstown) was the 100th runner across the line at 29:58.9.
The Spartans 7-8-9 finishers all showed great improvement at the 2013 IIAC Championships with each of them cutting at least 35 seconds off their time from the last time out at the Dr. Tucker Invite. Devante Miller (Markham, Ill./Bremen) set a new personal record by .06 seconds and showed an improvement of 35 seconds from his last race. Luke Elsburnd (Calmar, Iowa/South Winn) also knocked 46 seconds off his time from the Dr. Tucker. Tyler Peugh (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) set a new PR by 52 seconds at the championships.
