Basierak Named First Team All-IIAC Volleyball

Klaudia Basierak: Named First Team All-Iowa Conference

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) has announced its major award winners and all-conference team for the 2013 volleyball season. Wartburg College senior Ramey Sieck has been named the Iowa Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, while Buena Vista University freshman Maddie Bardole has been named the league's Freshman of the Year. Luther College head coach Danielle Lynch and Wartburg College co-head coaches Jennifer Walker and Doug Frazell, have been named IIAC Coaches of the Year.

University of Dubuque sophomore Klaudia Basierak (Hainesville, Ill./Grayslake) was named First Team All-Iowa Conference for the second straight year. The Spartans outside hitter finished the 2013 season with a team high 366 kills, 1,234 attack attempts, 367 points, and 14 double-doubles (Kills-Digs). Her 25 kills in the regular season finale win at Simpson are tied for the highest single match kill total in the IIAC this season. Basierak also set a school record in the Simpson match with 80 total attacks. She currently has three of the top 12 single game kill totals in the Iowa Conference.

During the 2013 season Basierak has been named all-tournament at the Beloit College: Buc Blast and the Millikin College: Slagell “Dig for a Cure” Classic. She finished the year second in the conference with 95 kills in IIAC only games and second overall with 366 kills. Nationally, she ranks 84th in NCAA Division III with 3.45 kills per set. Basierak was also recently named Capital One/CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District for her accomplishments in the classroom and on the court.

In 2012, Basierak was named Iowa Conference Freshman of the Year and First Team All-IIAC after leading the league with 526 kills, 3.95 kills per set, and 595 points scored.

Junior middle blocker, Amy Tranel (Hazel Green, Wis./Southwestern) was selected Honorable Mention All-Iowa Conference. A two-way threat, Tranel led UD with 63 total blocks, 55 block assists, and 24 aces. She also finished second on the team with 161 kills.

UD finished the 2013 season with an overall record of 12-21 and qualified for the Iowa Conference Tournament for the third consecutive year.
