Spartans Fall to North Park

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team closed out the 2013 calendar year on Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans lost on the road to North Park University (7-4), 78-66. Daneshia Snitker (Waukon, Iowa/Waukon) finished with a team high 15 points, seven rebounds, and four steals. UD falls to 7-4 on the year and 2-2 on the road. 

The Spartans trailed for much of the first eight minutes before an Emily Brinker (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo) layup gave UD their first lead of the game at 10-9. Brinker accounted for four early points in the Spartans 21-6 run over a five minutes stretch midway through the first half. Jenny Kotas (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) scored six points in the run including a four point play at the 10:26 mark. A late push in the last four minutes of the half turned a Dubuque 10 point lead into a two point North Park advantage. 

Brinker and Kotas each finished in double figures with Brinker scoring 13 points on 5-10 shooting from the field. Kotas finished 6-7 from the free throw line and made two three-pointers to account for all 12 of her points. Brinker and Kotas each stretched their streaks of double figure point games to five straight.

North Park led for all of the second half with their lead reaching 12 points with under four minutes to play. The Spartans continued to fight back with a 6-0 run to cut the NP lead in half at 70-64 with 1:10 left in the game. North Park responded with a 8-2 spurt to end the game at 78-66.

UD held a 14-10 advantage in steals with Snitker pacing the Spartans with four steals. Jessica Goetz (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) finished with three steals. Stephany Remakel (Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead) blocked two shots in the contest. 

Dubuque shot 72.0% (18-25) from the free throw line inlcuding 8-10 in the first half. 

UP NEXT: The Spartans open the Iowa Conference season on January 8th against Wartburg College (6-5). Game time on Jon Davison Court inside Stoltz Sports Center is 6:00 pm.
