Men's Track Finishes Second at Cornell

Rick Valcin: Improved on his Division-III leading Pole Vault performance with a victory at Cornell.

MOUNT VERNON, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Men's Track & Field team won two events on Saturday at the Hilltop Invitational on the campus of Cornell College. Included in the wins was Rick Valcin's (Catries, St. Lucia/Gros Islet) performance in Pole Vault, which places him atop the NCAA Division-III performance list. Kebba Bojang (Madison, Wis./Madison East) earned the victory in the Triple Jump as UD finished 1-2-4 in the event. As a team, UD finished in second of 12 teams competing.

The Spartans dominated the Triple Jump with Bojang taking first with a 12.79m (41' 11.5") jump. Antwone Lindsey (Gulfport, Miss./Gulfport) took second bairly being edged out for the title with a jump of 12.77m (41' 10.75"). Kameron Sconiers (Oak Lawn, Ill./H.L. Richards) was fourth. UD also had a strong performance in the Pole Vault with Valcin improving on his D-III leading performance and school record heighth of 5.03m (16' 6.0"). Alex Schlueter (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) was second with a personal record of 4.05m (13' 3.5") to complete the 1-2 finish for UD.

Senior captain Evan Zurbuchen (Hollandale, Wis./Madison West) led the Spartans on the track with a second place finish in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.53 seconds. UD also went 3-4 in the Men's 60m Dash with Valcin leading the way in 7.04 seconds. Kyle Williams (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) was fourth in the 60m Dash. 

Ron Brown (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa West) moved into fifth all-time at UD with a Shot Put throw of 13.47m (44' 2.5") on his way to a third place finish. Dubuque sophomore Mario-John Otchere (Rutland, Mass./Wachusett) placed third in the Weight Throw with a top distance of 13.76m (45' 1.75"). 

Tyler Dobratz (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) competed in the Heptathlon at the Wartburg Select and took eighth place in a loaded field. Dobratz won the Shot Put and took third in the 60m Dash. COMPLETE RESULTS FROM WARTBURG

UP NEXT: UD will compete at the Grinnell College Invitational on Saturday, February 8th. Field events begin at 10:00 am inside the Charles Benson Bear Recreation and Athletic Center.
