INDIANOLA, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team drove through a snow storm to get to Simpson College and faced a storm on the court as well. Simpson jumped out to an early 14-2 lead and did not look back en route to a 73-36 Spartan loss on Saturday afternoon. The UD bench scored 18 points while the starters accounted for 18 points as well. Dubuque is 13-8 overall and in fourth place in the Iowa Conference at 6-4.
The Spartans were led offensively by Jenna Kotas (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) with eight points. Kotas also pulled down six rebounds (two-offensive/four-defensive), her 12th straight game with at least four rebounds. Meggie Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) chipped in with six points, six rebounds (four-offensive/two-defensive), and three steals.
Despite a large deficet had halftime, UD continued to play hard in the second half with Simpson outscoring UD 35-27 in the half. The Spartans bench scored 17 points in the second half with Brittany Collier (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) and Daneshia Snitker (Waukon, Iowa/Waukon) each scoring four points in the half.
The biggest UD run of the game came near the middle of the second half when the Spartans scored eight unanswered points over two minutes. Emily Brinker (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo) accounted for three points in the run.
Jessica Goetz (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) pulled down a team high seven rebounds (five-offensive/two-defensive). Brittany Graves (Dubuque, Iowa/Hempstead) had seven rebounds (three-offensive/four-defensive) of her own in just four minutes of action.
