PLATTEVILLE, WISCONSIN - The University of Dubuque Women's Track & Field team competed at the 2014 UW-Platteville Invitational on Saturday. The Spartans won two events and finished second in two others. The highlight of the day came when Katelyn Herbig (Aurora, Ill./Aurora Central) won the weight throw with school record toss of 15.34m (50' 4.0"). There were no team scores kept.
The weight throw proved to be extremely exciting with four Spartans setting personal record. In addition to Herbig's performance, Nicole Forson (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Hope Academy) finished third with a toss of 14.30m (46' 11.0"). Trellini Lunsford (Osan, South Korea/Osan American) and Allyson Machala (Traer, Iowa/Pekin Community) also set PR's.
Rachel Busjahn (Sobieski, Wis./Pulaski) was busy all day, winning the 400m Dash in 59.79 seconds, the second fastest time in UD history. She also finished second in the Triple Jump at 10.46m (34' 4.0") and sixth in the 200m Dash at 27.28 seconds. Nikki McKenzie (Hoffman Estates, Ill./William Fremd) was right behind Busjahn in the 400m Dash, taking second place at 1:00.79. She was right behind Busjahn again in the 200m Dash at 27.30 seconds.
Brenda Breimon (Oconomowoc, Wis./Slinger) continued her strong season in the pole vault with a second place finish at 3.27m (10' 8.75"). Alexis Higgins (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) tied for third in the high jump clearing 1.57m (5' 1.75").
UP NEXT: The Spartans will host the 2014 UD Spartan Invite on Friday, February 21st. Events will begin at 4:00 pm.
