DECORAH, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team stopped a three game skid on Saturday to finish a game out of the IIAC title with a 10-4 conference mark. The #2 seeded Spartans beat the Luther Norse 72-66 and will host Tuesday's winner of the #3 seed Loras Vs. #6 seed Luther game in Stoltz Sports Center on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7:00 p.m.
The Spartans led by eight points after the opening half of action on the road (34-26). UD shot nearly 50% from the field in the opening 20 minutes of play while their defense held the host Norse to 31% shooting.
The Spartans found their groove beyond the three point arc and finished the night sinking 13-22 three point attempts (59.1%). Nobody was hotter than senior Chris Frazier who sank 6-7 attempts from the outside and ended with a game high 23 points. Andre Norris added 20 points after making 3-4 attempts from the arc. UD out rebounded the Norse 41-32 with Tyler Ware grabbing seven boards.
Luther fought a valiant effort by scoring more points in the paint, scoring 16 points off the 14 Spartan turnovers, and out scored UD in second chance points. The lead swapped six times and was tied another four. UD led in the game by as many as 14 points early in the second half.
