Spartans Finish 2nd in Iowa Conference

DUBUQUE, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Men’s Soccer team traveled down the street to take on nationally ranked #4 Loras College on Tuesday night. UD was unable to get the offense clicking in the 2-0 loss to the Duhawks finishing with only one shot on goal. The Spartans finish the season with an 11-5-1 overall record and 5-2 in the Iowa Conference for second place.

Derek Garcia (Mission Viego, Calif./Tesoro) and Cory Winkler (Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley) each finished with a team high two shots in the game. Brandon Wiley (Mannheim, Germany/Mannheim) recorded the only shot on goal for the Spartans.

Goalkeeper Jake O’Rourke (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gormon) finished with seven saves and two goals allowed.

After a scoreless first period, Loras scored in the 54th and 75th minute of play.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will host the winner of the Luther/Central game played on Saturday, October 27th. The Iowa Conference Semifinal match will be Wednesday, October 31st at Oyen Field.
