McDonald Named All-Region for Third Time

Nick McDonald: NCSAA All-Region

DUBUQUE, IOWA – For the third consecutive year University of Dubuque student-athlete Nick McDonald (Cary, Ill./Cary Grove) has been named National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Region. After two seasons as a NSCAA Second Team honoree, McDonald broke through with a big senior season to earn First Team All-North Region. He finished the season with 21 goals and seven assists to lead UD to a second place finish in the Iowa Conference (IIAC). The Spartans finished the season with an 11-6-1 record and ranked ninth in the final NSCAA North Region Poll.

McDonald finished the season in the Top Ten of all of Division III in numerous categories. He finished second in goals per game (1.23) and points per game (2.88). His 21 goals and 49 points also placed him in seventh in all of the NCAA DIII. McDonald is the first UD Men's Soccer player to earn three all-region awards.

A First Team All-IIAC performer for the third time, McDonald led the IIAC in goals (21), goals per game (2.88), points (49), points per game (2.88), game winners (6), shots (75), and shots per game (4.41). He also finished second in assists per game with 0.41. McDonald was named Iowa Conference Performer of the Week three times during the 2012 season.

The senior finished his four years at UD as the all-time leader in career goals (49), points (110), shots (235), game winners (15), and games started (76). The past four years the Spartans reached new heights of success, finishing the period with an overall record of 52-20-5. In conference play, UD finished 24-7-0 with an IIAC Championship in 2010, second place finishes in 2009 and 2012, and third place in 2011.
