Mission of Health, Physical Education & Recreation
The University of Dubuque Health, Physical Education & Recreation (HPER) Department holds to the beliefs that:
- all truth has its source in God. In the Presbyterian tradition, the HPER department seeks to advance an understanding of truth through educational pursuits which recognize the value of life-long learning and service.
- students in the HPER program are encouraged to develop in all aspects of their person: intellectual, spiritual, moral and physical.
- each person entering and exiting the HPER program has value and worth.
- a higher level of academic inquiry can only be achieved through thorough content preparation resulting in a well-prepared professional.
- a Christian university offers the unique opportunity for select individuals to attain an HPER degree where there is personal attention, a caring and supportive environment, diversity is appreciated and Christian love is practiced.
The mission of the HPER department is based on the assumption that in order to develop effective professionals, their preparation must include a strong sense of Christian ideals and service, stewardship of God's human and natural resources, general education, professional studies, subject matter knowledge and competencies, professional skills, clinical education experiences and professional dispositions.
