Parking

Parking Lots/Permits

Signs designating the lot name and parking hours are located at the entrance of each campus parking lot.  Parking, in accordance to these signs, is strictly enforced.  Vehicles are only allowed in these designated parking areas, except when under the direction of Safety & Security.  Proper parking is required, with vehicles placed only in marked spaces and parked in between the lines.  A state-issued handicapped parking permit (permanent or temporary) will allow parking in handicap spaces available in the lots. If there is not a handicap parking space available, please contact the Dean of Student Life or the Safety & Security department to make arrangements for an available space.

University of Dubuque students are not allowed to park in any parking lot other than those listed below during designated times, except when under the direction of Safety & Security. Faculty/Staff parking lots are No Student Parking areas from 7:00AM until 5:00PM, Monday through Friday, throughout the entire calendar year. At all other times, students must observe specific parking lot sign(s), which allow parking in Faculty/Staff designated lots between 5pm-7am M-F and on weekends with a current valid permit.  The following outlines the permit colors that allow students to park in certain designated areas during peak traffic hours Monday-Friday 7am-5pm:

Orange Stickers are issued to Commuter Students who may park only in the following areas:

  • The Hardee's parking lot at the corner of McCormick Street and University Avenue
  • The Peter’s Common parking lot located behind Goldthorp and Peter’s Commons off of Algona Street.

Yellow Stickers are issued to overflow Aitchison, Cassat, or Donnell residents who may only park in the following areas:

  • ·         The Finley Lower Lot, located off Finley and West Streets.

Green Stickers are issued to Aitchison Hall residents who may park only in the following areas:

  • The Pearl parking lot located just off the corner of Pearl & McCormick Streets.

Blue Stickers issued to Cassat and Donnell Halls residents who may only park in the following areas:

  • The Chlapaty Recreation & Wellness Center Lot adjacent to the football field at the end of the McCormick Street extension.

Purple Stickers are issued to University Park Village residents who may only park in the following areas:

  • The University Park Village (PV) parking lot

Black Stickers are issued to Seminary Townhouse and Potterveld residents who may only park in the following areas:

  • The Seminary Village (SV) parking areas
  • The Potterveld parking lot

No Parking Areas
No Parking Areas include any areas marked by permanent or temporary signs, grassy areas, building entrances, crosswalks, garage entrances and any other area not designated as parking areas. The absence of NO PARKING signs does not imply that parking is allowed. It is illegal to park in any area that is not designated for parking. Parking on most other streets surrounding the University is prohibited by signs marking areas designated as "NO STUDENT PARKING" or "NO RESIDENT STUDENT PARKING" areas. The fine for parking in these areas is $20.00. Additionally, some residential streets are maintained as residential districts and all non-resident parking is prohibited by the City of Dubuque.

In addition, parking is not allowed in the following areas:

  • Service lane between Peters Commons and Goldthorp Hall
  • Stoltz Sports Center service lane behind Smith Hall
  • Loading area and drop zone behind Peters Commons
  • Drive-through lanes in all parking areas
  • Middle and end of drive lane in Cassat and Donnell Halls parking area
  • All areas marked as fire lanes, either by sign or yellow-painted curb
  • All sidewalks and patios on campus

Visitor Parking
All visitors to campus must obtain a Visitor's Parking Permit before parking in any University parking area. These are available 24 hours a day from the Campus Safety and Security Office. Students expecting guests may obtain a daily Visitor's Parking Permit in advance for family members or friends who will be parking in University parking. You will need to have License plate # & state of issue, year, make, model and color.

Townhouse Parking
Please do not park cars in the circle streets between the hours of 7:00 am and 9:00 pm. This will help others to see children when driving into and out of their driveways. Additionally, please park cars in driveways close to the garages so they are not blocking the vision of other drivers backing out of driveways. This will help all drivers see children.

Students renting in houses located on “No Student Parking” streets
Students who live in home located on a street surrounding the University or designated by the City of Dubuque as a “No Student Parking” area, must register their vehicle at no charge. Those students are allowed to park in close proximity to their residence only.  Those students may never park on campus.
