Bridge Program
The University of Dubuque supports all students to be successful in reaching their full potential and their academic goals. As part of UD's Bridge Program, all areas of campus life work collaboratively to assist students who come to UD with the desire to learn and succeed. The program helps students "bridge the gaps" that may exist in their preparation for college. The program includes a Summer Bridge experience, Reading & Study Skills classes, mandatory study labs, individualized tutoring, SkillsTutor learning modules, and peer mentoring. Bridge students are selected for the program by the Dean of Admissions and are notified with their acceptance letter. For more information contact Dr. Marta Abele, Bridge Program Director, mabele@dbq.edu or 563.589.3723.
SUMMER BRIDGE STUDENT QUOTES
"The program was helpful in many ways. Getting into small groups made getting to know people a lot easier. Going around campus to all the buildings and classrooms was good. This experience was great!"
"All the sessions that we went to were all good because they all gave out good information that will be helpful for my whole 4 years here. I was a little nervous when I first got here, but now I feel really confident."
"I felt that all of the sessions were informative and helpful because not only did we get to meet people and ask questions, but we were also able to find different areas in all the buildings."
"Being able to meet some of the instructors that I will have as well as meet people that I can study with was great. Hearing from other students on the issues here on campus was also helpful."
"I myself found the bridge program a good experience because it showed me around campus. It showed me that all my professors care about my education. It helped me get out of being shy with all the activities we did together. I also loved the way we all connected with all the students in all the groups. I found many great hints in this program!"
"I really loved everything if you want me to be honest. I took in all the information they gave me, and I'm going to use it when school starts. Something did stand out to me and that was when we went to the ropes course and did all those fun activities. I know some people faced their fears that day. Thank you for the great experience!"
"What I liked best about the summer bridge program was that we got to meet people and become friends. Also I enjoyed the ropes course that challenged us to work as a team. I also liked the dodgeball and volleyball tournament that allowed us to compete as a group."
"I really enjoyed how nice all the mentors were. I am so thankful that our mentors were so helpful to all of us!"
"The team building was great. I met many people and did many new things that have helped me feel more at home here in Dubuque."
