Shane Schellsmidt serves as the head baseball coach for University of Dubuque. A native of New Albin, Iowa, Schellsmidt, attended the Iowa High School baseball powerhouse, Kee High School (Lansing, Iowa).
Along with his responsibilities at the University of Dubuque Coach Schellsmidt serves as an Associate Scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Owner/GM River Valley League, a Collegiate Summer Wooden Bat League, consisting of players from NCAA D I thru D III, NJCAA and NAIA. Honors Under Coach Schellsmidt: " 52 School Records Set " Has Coached 2 Players who have Signed Professional Contracts " 1 NCAA National Statistical Champion - Home Runs " 1 NCAA National Statistical Champion - Slugging Percentage " 1 All-American " 6 All-Region Selections " 14 All Conference Selections " 2 All-Iowa Conference Batting Champions While at Kee High Schellsmidt was a member of one state championship title, two state runner-up titles, all-conference in baseball for four years, and a five-year letterman. Schellsmidt and his brother Andy Beck hold the most brother combo hits in Kee Hawk history (460). Notable high school statistic, Schellsmidt shares a state of Iowa record of doubles in a single game . Schellsmidt played two years of junior college baseball at Division 1 NJCAA, Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa, under legendary Coach Bill Krejci, Team USA Junior National Head Coach. He then transferred to the University of Dubuque where he earned his bachelor's degree in physical education. While playing for the Spartans, Schellsmidt battled knee injuries, but while on the field was a two-year starter at catcher and first base, also serving as a two year team captain. Memorable college moment, his first college hit was a 3-Run Homerun against Iowa Lakes Community College. Schellsmidt began his coaching career under to Iowa High School Hall of Fame Coaches in Gene Schultz and Dave Broders. As the assistant baseball coach at Kee High School, Schellsmidt had the chance to work under Gene Schultz, the nation's winningest high school coach. He then served as the head baseball coach at Bellevue High School in Bellevue, Iowa. Shane and his wife Stephanie reside in Dubuque with their two sons Carter and Cael.
