A native of New Albin, Iowa, Schellsmidt, attended the Iowa High School baseball powerhouse, Kee High School (Lansing, Iowa). Along with his responsibilities at the University of Dubuque Coach Schellsmidt serves as an Associate Scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Director of the newly formed Mississippi River Valley Collegiate Baseball Wooden Bat League. Honors Under Coach Schellsmidt: 41 School Records Set 1 Professional Contract 1 NCAA National Statistical Champion - Home Runs 1 NCAA National Statistical Champion - Slugging Percentage 1 All-American 6 All-Region Selections 14 All Conference Selections 2 All-Iowa Conference Batting Champions While at Kee High Schellsmidt was a member of one state championship title, two state runner-up titles, all-conference in baseball for four years, and a five-year letterman. He graduated from Kee High in 1996 and played two years of junior college baseball at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa, under Coach Bill Krejci, 1999 Team USA Junior National Head Coach. He then transferred to the University of Dubuque where he earned his bachelor's degree in physical education. While playing for the Spartans, Schellsmidt was a two-year starter at catcher and first base, and served two years as team captain. Schellsmidt began his coaching career as the assistant baseball coach at Kee High School under Gene Schultz, the nations winningest high school coach. He then served as the head baseball coach at Bellevue High School in Bellevue, Iowa. In the summer of 2002, Bellevue High School set the school record for wins under Schellsmidt, in only his second year as head coach. Shane and his wife Stephanie reside in Dubuque with their two sons Carter and Cael. Prior to coming back to UD, Edmonds served as the head coach at Highland Community College, in Freeport, Ill. Edmonds was a four-year starter for Galena High School where he was named to the Illinois All-State Team for two years. Kamron Koplitz, a native of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Koplitz joins the UD coaching staff in 2008. Koplitz played collegiate baseball at the University of Dubuque, where he was a three-year starter and earned All-Conference honors his junior season. Upon his graduation Koplitz finished his UD Baseball career as the 3rd winningest pitcher in the school's history. Koplitz is a 2007 UD graduate and received his undergraduate degree in elementary education.

McCarthy brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience that will only enhance the quality baseball the University of Dubuque is looking to obtain. McCarthy, a native of Dubuque, IA, was a member of the 1978 Dubuque Hempstead High School State Championship team. Following high school McCarthy attended Black Hawk Junior College, in Moline, IL, and then transferred to Eastern Oregon University, in La Grande, OR. Coach Mac carries many other duties outside the Spartan baseball program; he directs the Tri-States Fall Baseball League, as well as giving personal hitting and pitching instruction.
