UD for Kids

Welcome to UD for Kids 2009!

UD for Kids is a summer enrichment program for students in the tri-state area.  Students demonstrating advanced abilities in the areas of academic, leadership, creativity, visual and performing arts giftedness, are nominated to attend.  School codes are required for registration.

Dear 2009 Session I UD for Kids Families,

Thank you again for your understanding of our "Snow Day in June" at the University of Dubuque last Friday, June 19th.  UD Campus was shut down at 10:30 due to a power failure sustained during the storm that swept through our area.  As was reported in Saturday's Telegraph Herald, this was the first time I have experienced a cancelled UD Kids day.  However, according to Madame Klingler, veteran UD Kids teacher, UD Kids had NEVER been cancelled before!  So, this group of students made history!  J

First, we are extending a discount on your summer 2010 UD Kids registration.  Please watch for an email in early March prior to next year's registration.  This message will detail the discount amount and directions for registration.  Please remember, you are automatically invited back to UD for Kids next summer!

Second, some of our instructors are planning to incorporate our June 19th Snow Day if possible in either this week's or Session III classes.  Please note the plans below:

  • May It Please the Court-invited to June 26th 2:30-4:00 class to act as jurors for this week's court case.
  • American Dolls-invited to attend June 26th 12:30-2:00 class for closing activities.
  • Be a Star! Bugz the Musical-invited to June 26th practice and performance at 1:45-2:45.
  • Ratatouille's French Café-invited to June 26th French meal at 12:15-2:15.
  • 3-2-1 Lift Off-invited to July 10th rocket blast off at 1:45-2:45 at Table Mound School. Students MUST bring their signed rocket safety rules sheet with them (issued during class).

ALL students planning on attending these make-up days MUST email me at cwerner@dbq.edu in order for the UD Kids Faculty to plan accordingly.

Third, some of our instructors have planned for students to pick up their work projects.  Please note the list below:

  • All About Me-booklets may be picked up in the UD Kids office in Blades 103 during the weeks of June 24th and July 6th.

Finally, some classes did not have materials to send home due to the nature of the course or their final performance would not fit in with the Week II students.  We apologize for this inconvenience.

We wish you the VERY best "rest of the summer" and successful next school year!  Watch our UD Kids website at www.dbq.edu/udkids in March.  Registration will begin then!

Thank you for your support, Cheryl  :-)

Please email me at cwerner@dbq.edu with any questions.

If you love drama, your theatrical skills will come in handy as a witness and you'll be able to play it up as much as you want. If you love public speaking, then get ready to challenge your critical thinking skills as an attorney, where you eventually will be able to make an opening statement and closing argument based on a theme and a theory of your case.
