Mission and Values
The University of Dubuque is a small, private university affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) offering undergraduate, graduate, and theological seminary programs. The University is comprised of individuals from the region, the nation, and the world.
As a community, the University practices its Christian faith by educating students and pursuing excellence in scholarship. Therefore, the University of Dubuque is committed to:

The University
The University of Dubuque is a coeducational liberal arts college and a theological seminary in Iowa's first city - Dubuque. The Key City is on the Mississippi river at the point where the borders of Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa meet. Founded in 1852 by Adrian Van Vliet as a school for prospective pastors, the four-year college was added several years later. It now has four schools: School of Business, School of Liberal Arts, School of Professional Programs, and School of Theology.
Through its history, the University has been known as a place of educational opportunity. Even today, a large portion of its students are the first person from their families to attend college. The student body of approximately 1,000 students come from 30 states and 20 foreign countries.
Students from many nations attend the University of Dubuque. Together with international students at other institutions in Dubuque and peoples from other cultures who live in the Dubuque area, they bring an international flavor to the community and to the campus. UD offers students a cosmopolitan atmosphere. We are convinced that students living in today's world are better prepared for life if they have a global perspective. American and international student interaction on our campus, as well as the movement of faculty and students across international boundaries, is essential for a meaningful education, human enrichment and intercultural global awareness.
As a member of the Dubuque Tri-College Cooperative Effort, UD offers its students the opportunity to attend and receive credit for courses at Clarke and Loras Colleges as well as the University of Dubuque, thus providing access to the many different faculty members, professional societies, educational opportunities, and social activities of a campus of more than 3,500 students.
Accreditation.
The University of Dubuque is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Institutions of Higher Education, 30 North LaSalle Street, Suite 2400, Chicago, Illinois, 60602-2504 and the State of Iowa Department of Education. It holds institutional membership with the Association of Independent Liberal Arts Colleges for Teacher Education, and the Iowa Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.
