The staff of the Office of Safety and Security welcome you to the University of Dubuque.
While the University of Dubuque offers students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to achieve their academic and professional goals in a friendly Midwestern environment, please keep in mind that the potential for crime does exist even on this beautiful campus.
It is in everyone's best interest that every member of the campus community take precautions to prevent one another from becoming victims. The University of Dubuque Safety and Security Department is dedicated to maintaining the campus as a safe and pleasant place in which to live, work and study. A truly safe campus can only be achieved through the cooperation, vigilance, and proactive attitudes of all students, faculty and staff.
The information provided in the Safety and Security web pages is designed to inform, advise, and alert the campus community to the current programs, policies, and procedures pertaining to crime awareness and reporting on campus.
Mission
The University of Dubuque's Safety and Security Department's mission is to promote and maintain a safe and secure campus environment for the University community of students, faculty, and staff.

The Safety and Security Department at the University of Dubuque provides for the safety and security of students, staff, faculty, visitors, and University property 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year.
The Safety and Security Office is located in Smith Hall, Room 112, at 2205 Grace Street. Regular office hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. If after hours aid is needed, call on the red phone located on the wall outside of the Security Office and the officer on duty will assist you.
As part of our efforts to promote and maintain a safe and secure campus environment, University Security Officers provide a regular program of prevention services including:
- Conducting routine foot and mobile patrols of campus grounds and monitoring campus environment
- Enforcing campus rules/regulations and issuing parking tickets
- Working with local law enforcement agencies to exchange information and to assist in incidents involving the University community on or off campus
- Responding to calls, disturbances, emergencies, and accidents
- Opening and closing buildings
- Providing crime prevention training programs
- Providing specialized security services for University events
- Providing 24 hours-a-day escorts
- Speaking at meetings on topics of safety and security
Although not certified law enforcement officers, Security Officers do receive training on campus safety, basic first aid/CPR, and receive continual in-house training to upgrade and professionalize their skills. The Safety and Security Department is the law enforcement authority on the University of Dubuque campus.
