Sport Marketing and Management
The University of Dubuque Sport Marketing and Management major is committed to providing excellence in the creation and dissemination of knowledge, technical skills, and conceptual understanding of contemporary sport marketing and management to students.
The Sport Marketing and Management Program uses an interdisciplinary approach that includes foundation courses in both sports and business. Specific courses in the sport marketing and management program provide students with an understanding of the role of sports in society, the role of marketing and management in sports, and the opportunities to apply their knowledge in sports-related organizations.
What You Will Learn
- Upon successful completion of the program, students will demonstrate strong preparation and skills in marketing, media relations, event planning/management, public relations, technology, and business organizational structures.
- The Sport Marketing and Management Program seeks to combine a strong foundation in theory and practice in preparing students for advanced degree programs and/or entry level careers in a variety of fields such as; marketing and management of professional sport, collegiate sport and administration, recreation and leisure studies, retail, marketing and promotions, sport communications, and others.
Program of Study
The Sport Marketing and Management Program is designed to introduce students to a variety of future careers within the sport management field. Students are prepared for the management of sport and entertainment organizations at the professional, collegiate, and interscholastic levels; in addition to a host of other career fields; and for possible graduate studies in sport management. In addition to required courses offered within the department, students may complete elective courses in marketing, communication, computer graphics, or business.
What Our Students Do
In addition to rigorous coursework and hands-on practical experience throughout the curriculum, our students work both independently and cooperatively to learn the broader field of sport management and how to be an agent of change in a rapidly evolving sport and entertainment environment. Students have volunteered their time and talents with the Dubuque Fighting Saints Hockey Club, the University of Dubuque Athletic Association and Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center, and the City of Dubuque Leisure Services Department, among others.
Where Our Graduates Go
Following graduation from the Sport Marketing and Management Program, students go to work for professional, amateur, collegiate, and municipal sport and entertainment organizations. A handful of students have even chosen to continue their studies in Sport Management at the masters level.

Following the inclusion of another 30+ students for Fall 2014, the Sport Marketing and Management Program looks to continue to build its foundation at the University of Dubuque in anticipation of its first full graduating class in the Spring of 2016.

Careers in Sport Marketing Management
The Sport Marketing and Management Program is designed to prepare students for a variety of future careers within the sport management field.
