Semester Study Abroad

Students at the University of Dubuque are encouraged to include international study in their college careers!

According to University of Dubuque's Prof. Alan Garfield, "Travel takes students outside their comfort zones...which is, after all, where real learning happens."

We understand that applying for study abroad can seem like a complicated process. The Steps to Studying Abroad has been designed by the International Studies Office to help you prepare and research your semester abroad options.  The Checklist will refer to the Course Equivalency Form that must be filled out by your academic advisor and the Registrar.

If you have a semester program in mind, please print the Study Abroad Application Form and make an appointment with the  Office of International Studies!

Deciding if, where, when, and how to study abroad can be a challenge. Each student has their own wants, needs, and goals to consider when deciding on a study abroad program.  The University of Dubuque Study Abroad staff suggests that students ask themselves a series of questions to help find a program that is right for them! You can find the questions here!

UD Exchange & Partner Programs

At the undergraduate level, UD is a member of several exchange and partnership programs.  There would include partners in Northern Ireland, Denmark, and Spain

  • Irish American Scholars: Northern Irish students study for one year at UD and UD students are eligible to apply for one-year or one-semester seats in three Northern Irish universities. Again, the student's full financial aid package will apply. Applications for this program are taken in the fall semester for study the following academic year. Check out their website here.
  • Argbrog: Aalborg University is a liberal arts university in Aalborg, Denmark.  UD students who are accepted will pay UD tuition and will study for a semester in Aalborg.  Students from Aalborg have already studied at UD, so you will have friendly contacts if you go! (You will pay your housing at Aalborg.) Check out their website here.
  • Alcala: The University of Dubuque is a member of the Consortium for Transatlantic Studies and Scholarship.  As a UD student, you can join students and faculty from other U.S. universities and study at the University of Alcala (near Madrid).  This unique program allows you to study one course at a time in three 4-week blocks along with a 12-week Introduction to Spain. Check out their website here.
