University of Dubuque Announces Athletic Hall of Fame Honorees

Five accomplished former University of Dubuque student-athletes and three teams will be enshrined in the UD Athletic Hall of Fame during a private awards ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 22. The honorees will be recognized during halftime of the football game against Central College.

In the Fall of 1950, Arlo Duba (C'52) was working as a guide on a bus tour for new students when Doreen Eckles (C'54) first saw him. Fate - and new jobs in Peters Commons Dining Hall - brought the strangers together soon after. Over 65 years later, the couple are still very much in love.

Their love blossomed on the University of Dubuque’s campus. Today VanNess and Dorothy (Biasi) Simmons will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary. The couple was married in a quaint ceremony in the University Chapel on Aug. 17, 1946.

Family Promotes Student Involvement

Rabea Muneer Ali and his wife, Razan Murad, traveled from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to the University of Dubuque to further their education. On Saturday, May 14, the couple will graduate with master’s degrees in communication.
