Spartan Start for Transfer Students

Spartan Start for Transfer Students is designed to help you successfully continue your college journey at the University of Dubuque through campus-specific training and support.

Fall 2020 Transfer Students

Welcome to the University of Dubuque family! We are excited to have you join us. Transfer students beginning classes in August 2020 will be able to choose to attend the full three-day Spartan Start program or select a one-day program on either Monday, August 24, or Tuesday, August 25, 2020. The one-day Spartan Start options may also be appropriate for non-traditional students. We're working to build a great schedule for the program. Please check back often as this page will be updated with additional details as they become available.

If you're not sure which option is best for you, please contact Jaclyn Esqueda, Director of First-Year Experience, at or 563.589.3866 for assistance.

Spartan Start Goals:
  1. Create a welcoming environment that builds a sense of community for new students.
  2. Foster and develop valuable connections for new students on campus.
  3. Provide opportunities for new students to become acquainted with campus resources.
  4. Build confidence of families of incoming students through encouragement and support.

How will we meet these goals together? We offer a robust and welcoming orientation program that will give new students a small group of fellow new students to build initial relationships with, as well as ample opportunities to meet many other new students through social events. Each group is matched with an upper class peer mentor who will guide and advise new students, helping them to acclimate to new surroundings and connect to resources and friends. New students who commit to participating in all of New Student Orientation are choosing success in their first days on campus and setting up great student success habits that will trickle into class attendance, involvement in leadership opportunities, and building relationships that last a lifetime.
