This stirring performance, based on the essential writings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., opens with narration describing the tribulations of the Montgomery bus boycott. Dr. King’s testimony of these events is given in his passionate sermon “Early Days.” Next, the audience is transported to 1963 to witness Dr. King’s historical speech “I Have A Dream.” The Norm of Greatness also includes “The Drum Major Instinct,” The Eulogy,” and “I See the Promised Land.” www.darrylvanleer.com This performance was originally scheduled in March 2020 and then postponed. Minnesota-raised Tommy Ryman was a semifinalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, where judges raved “…never seen anything like him, one of a kind, fantastic!” Ryman’s act is described as absurdist and clever, masked behind a very likable and innocent demeanor often thought of as disturbingly adorable. Live from Clifton Truman Daniel's living room, this one-hour play/lecture features President Truman’s eldest grandson portraying his grandfather and himself, stepping in and out of character to create a portrait of his life from a family perspective. Source material includes President Truman’s memoirs, letters, family stories, and books by Clifton’s late mother, Margaret Truman. A Grandson's Portrait remembers our 33rd President who regarded the highest office in the land as second only to an American citizen. Don’t miss the debut of John and Alice Butler Hall’s new Dobson 3,000-plus pipe organ, Opus 97, featuring University Organist and Professor of Music Dr. Charles Barland. The repertoire was chosen to highlight this extraordinary instrument’s symphony of sound. The program showcases music from Charles Marie-Widor, J.S. Bach, American composers Billy Strayhorn and Dudley Buck, and more. Buck’s Variations on the Star-Spangled Banner will demonstrate the many colors of Opus 97. The program finale reveals the organ’s full capacity with music by Alexandre Guilmant. Special thanks to John and Alice Butler for their gift of the John and Alice Butler Organ.

May Commencement Ceremony 2021 Graduates will be assigned a specific ceremony time

The University of Dubuque is committed to celebrating the academic accomplishments of its undergraduate and graduate students. To accommodate proper health and safety protocols, three in-person commencement ceremonies will be held Saturday, May 1, 2021, in the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center. Graduates will be assigned a specific ceremony time and be given wristbands for up to six guests. The ceremonies will be streamed live on Facebook, YouTube, and UD Media. More details will be shared in the coming weeks by the Office of the Registrar via email at Registrar@dbq.edu.
