State Economic Development Board Accepts Bullock Appointment

The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) Board (Des Moines, IA) has accepted the appointment of Jeffrey F. Bullock, president of the University of Dubuque, as an ex-officio member of the board. The Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (IAICU) appoints a representative from one of the state's private institutions to serve on the IEDA board.Jeffrey Bullock joined the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary in 1996 as Dean of the Seminary and Vice President of the University. In addition, he holds the faculty position of Professor of Hermeneutic and Homiletics. In February 1998, he was selected to become the 11th President of the University of Dubuque, and assumed office on June 1, 1998. During Dr. Bullock's presidency, the University of Dubuque underwent what has come to be known as "The Plan for Transformation." Since the Transformation, the University's enrollment has quadrupled, its endowment has grown from $15 million to nearly $80 million, and nearly $200 million has been invested in new and renovated campus infrastructure.
Dr. Bullock's educational background includes a BA from Seattle Pacific University, an MDiv from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, and an MA and PhD in Speech Communication from the University of Washington. Dr. Bullock is involved in numerous community boards, academic and ecclesial organizations, including AY McDonald Manufacturing, Paxton-Patterson Publishing, and the Greater Dubuque Development Corporation. As a Presbyterian minister, Dr. Bullock has served congregations in Pittsburgh, PA and in Seattle, WA, is an active speaker and preacher in conferences and congregations throughout the country, and has published numerous articles and lectures. His first book, Preaching with a Cupped Ear: Hans-Georg Gadamer's Philosophical Hermeneutics as Post-Modern Wor[l]d was published in 1998.
