Pointers Take Advantage of Spartan Turnovers

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque football team turned the ball over twice in the opening half of play and that was all was needed for the UW-Stevens Point Pointers to gain momentum and end first half with a 28-7 lead. UD scored a touchdown in the third quarter on a 33 yard catch by Austin Morgan from Wyatt Hanus, but the Pointers would finish the night 55-14 over the Spartans.

The Spartans finished the night with 403 yards of offense, but gave up 540 yards of offense to the Pointers. Hanus completed 29 of 45 pass attempts for 330 yards and two touchdowns. Morgan led all receivers in the game with 13 catches for 138 yards. UD was only able to convert 5-15 third down attempts while the visiting Pointers converted on 10-15 third down conversions. UD failed on all three of their fourth down conversion attempts. The Pointers ground game kept the Spartans scrambling as they finished with 268 yards rushing in 46 attempts.

Trevor Kinnett ended with 10 solo tackles including one tackle for loss of three yards. Trevor Runkle added four solo tackles and six assisted tackles in the loss.

The Spartans 1-2 overall will enjoy their off week next week before returning to action in the Iowa Conference opener on Sept. 29 at Central College with kick-off slated for 1;00 p.m. in Pella. UD will return home to Chalmers Field on Oct. 13 for the school's homecoming game Vs. Coe College Kohawks with kick-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
