All-America Honors for Barwick

DUBUQUE, IOWA – University of Dubuque three-sport standout Ashley Barwick (Appleton, Wis./Xavier) has been named Second Team Capital One Academic All-America for Track & Field/Cross Country by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Barwick, an Accounting/Business Admin double major graduated in May with a 4.00 grade point average. To be eligible for academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must a varsity contributor, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better and be at least a sophomore academically.

Barwick joined the Track & Field team for the outdoor season after participating in Women’s Basketball during the winter. In addition, she was a four-year starter on the Women’s Soccer team in the fall. The senior mid-distance runner competed in the 800 Meter and 1,500 Meter Run as well as running a leg on the 4x800 Meter Relay. At the Iowa Conference Outdoor Championships, the UD Women’s 4x800m Relay team set a new school record with a time of 10:11.5 (10.5 seconds faster than the previous record).

An active member of the campus community, Barwick made the Dean’s List all eight semesters at Dubuque while also being the Editor of the school newspaper and a Wendt Scholar. She was also the winner of the 2013 Spartans Female Academic Athlete Excellence Award. Barwick was a First Team Capital One Academic All-America in Women’s Soccer as well as a two-time Academic All-District selection. She received Academic All-Iowa Conference seven times (3-Soccer ,3-Basketball, 1-Track).

Barwick is the third UD Women’s Track & Field student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors. Previous honorees are Missy Ebonroth (1stTeam in 1996) and Dawn Overstake (3rd Team in 1983).
