BOX SCORE

DUBUQUE, IOWA - The University of Dubuque's one-two duo at forward of Megan Siepler (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) and Alexandra Watkins (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook) provided all the offense the Spartans would need to take down St. Mary's University (0-2). The Sunday afternoon home opener saw Siepler and Watkins team up on all three goals in the Spartans 3-1 victory. UD is now 2-0 on the season.

The Spartans jumped out to an early lead in the 12th minute of the game with Watkins scoring her second goal of the season. The breakaway goal was set up after a long goal kick by Lauren Waddell (Poplar Grove, Ill./Belvidere) was controlled by Siepler. Siepler controlled the ball and sent it over the Cardinal defenders where Watkins ran down the ball and was able to beat the SMU goalkeeper.

Dubuque went into halftime with a 1-0 lead with Watkins goal being the only shot on goal in the period. St. Mary's evened the score at 1-1 with a goal two minutes into the second half.

Following the St. Mary's goal, Siepler scored two goals in a 10 minute stretch with each coming on breakaways set up by passes by Watkins. On each goal, Siepler was able to outrun the SMU defenders leaving only the goalkeeper between her and the goal.

Tiffany Duncan (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union) picked up her second win of the season and tenth as a Spartan as she played all 90 minutes in goal. Duncan recorded three saves in the contest.

UD held a 9-7 advance in shots and 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
