Sophomore Nicholas Kazmierczak grabbed the University of Dubuque men’s track and field team’s second-straight Iowa Conference indoor pole vault championship at Wartburg on Friday with a vault of 14’4.75”. The fab freshman team Ernest Winters, Joseph Miggins, Hurshel Ross, and Deshond Robinson captured the Spartans second IIAC title with a school and facility record in the 4x200m relay (1:29.19).

Senior Nikki McKenzie won the triple jump for the second straight year with a leap of 36'2.75" and earned fifth place in the long jump amidst a plethora of runner-up performances by the University of Dubuque women’s track team. UD’s performances helped push the Spartans to a third-place finish at the Iowa Conference Indoor Championships (hosted by Wartburg).

Wrestling Place 7th at NCAA Division III Central Regional

The University of Dubuque wrestling team finished with 65.5 points in the 2015 NCAA Division III Central Regional for a seventh place finish. The Top-3 wrestlers in each weight class advanced to the 2015 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships March 13-14 at Hershey, Pa., the Spartans failed to gain a national qualifier in 2015. UD's best finishes were a quartet of fifth place finishes and a pair of sixth place finishes.

On Monday, March 30, the University of Dubuque’s Wendt Center for Character Education will host Sister Helen Prejean, CSJ, author of Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States, who will deliver the lecture, “Dead Man Walking – The Journey Continues” as part of the Lester G. and Michael Lester Wendt Lecture Series. The lecture will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Heritage Center’s John and Alice Butler Hall on the University of Dubuque Campus.

Life is good for junior Andre Norris, who helped lead the University of Dubuque men’s basketball team to their second Iowa Conference (IIAC) tournament title in three years and earned the IIAC MVP award after leading the IIAC in scoring at 21.2 ppg. Senior Gage Heffernan and Lucas Ware were also selected to the All-IIAC First Team and Second Team, respectively, while Brandon Ferguson secured the IIAC Defensive Player of the Year.

The University of Dubuque women’s basketball team placed four Spartans on the All-Iowa Conference (IIAC) teams led by senior Jenna Kotas. Kotas led the Iowa Conference (IIAC) in scoring and finished second in rebounding to earn her second-straight All-IIAC First Team Award and senior Meggie Schmidt placed on the All-IIAC Second Team after pacing the IIAC in steals. Senior Kayla Springer and sophomore Emily Brinker were named Honorable Mention.

The penultimate computer rankings of the 2015 NCAA Division III indoor track & field season featured a familiar set of schools at the top, some minor reshuffling in the middle, and new faces at the bottom. The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the rankings on Tuesday, March 3. The University of Dubuque men's and women's team moved up the rankings after strong performances in the 2015 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships. The Spartans ranked 33rd in last rankings, leapt to #19 in the nation for the men's program highest ranking in school history.
