University of Dubuque Track and Field Outdoor Invitational

The University of Dubuque is hosting the 2015 Outdoor Invitational on Saturday, April 18 beginning at 10:00 a.m. (field events) on Douglas J. Miller Track. Schools schedules to compete include: Beloit College, Clarke University, Cornell College, Knox College, Loras College, North Iowa Area Community College, Rockford University and University of Dubuque. Due to a baseball game scheduled on campus, the women's and men's javelin throw will be held at Loras College in Dubuque.

UD dropped a pair of games on Saturday at Coe, losing the first by a 2-6 margin and dropping the second by a 1-5 mark. The Spartans return to action on Tuesday, April 21 when they host the Simpson College Storm on Senior Day.

Spartans Tennis Drop Match to Beavers

The University of Dubuque men's tennis team entered Saturday with high hopes of inching their way closer into the IIAC Tournament berth with a much needed conference victory, but the visiting Buena Vista University Beavers held the same thoughts. The match would teter on the final match of the afternoon between UD's Jordan Hamling and BV's Robby Steffes. Hamling captured the first set 6-1 before losing the second set 3-6. A third tie break set would be for the match and Steffes took the third, 6-2 and ending the Spartans afternoon in defeat 4-5.

The University of Dubuque softball needed a sweep of the Simpson College Storm on Tuesday to clinch an IIAC Tournament berth. Unfortunately it was the Storm who blew into Dubuque and clinched after winning game one by an 8-3 score and sneaking out with a game two 7-5 victory when the Spartans left the bases loaded in the bottom of seventh inning.

The University of Dubuque women's golf team placed fifth on Wednesday at the 2015 Clarke University Spring Invitational with a round of 446. The Par 72, 5,578 yard course played extremely tough in the chilled windy conditions with the top score being a +13 over Par 85.

2015 IIAC Men's Golf Championship Begins Play

The 2015 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Men’s Golf Championship begins this weekend, Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25, with the first 36 holes of the 72-hole event at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City. Teams will tee off at 9 a.m. both days. The final 36 holes will be played May 1-2 at Thunder Hills Country Club in Peosta with teams teeing off beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday. Loras College is the host of the 2015 Iowa Conference Men’s Golf Championship.

Spartans Qualify for the 106th Annual Drake Relays

The 106th Annual Drake Relays is set to begin this week and the University of Dubuque men's and women's teams will be represented in one of the nations most prestigious track and field events. The Drake Relays begins on April 22 and will finish up on April 26 at Drake Stadium, ticket offices will open one hour prior to the start of each session. The women's team qualified two relays, the 4x100 and the 4x200, while UD's men's team qualified the returning NCAA National Division III Outdoor Champion, Rick Valcin, in the pole vault and Ernest Winters in the 100 meter dash, and the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.
