Third basemen Austin McWhite hit a solo home run and an RBI-double to set up third basemen Dalton Garst's walk-off sacrifice fly to win game one, 4-3, over Coe. A seven-run, seventh-inning by the Kohawks broke open a close game as the Spartans fell in game two, 10-3, on Monday afternoon.

Women's Golf Host Dual Meet

The University of Dubuque hosted the Loras College Duhawks in a dual golf meet on Monday at Lacoma Golf Course. UD's Lauren Smith was medalist with a round of 89 on the Par 71, 5,810 yard course, but Loras won the meet 411 to the Spartans 426.

The University of Dubuque will be hosting the 2015 Twilight Invitational on Friday, May 1 on the Douglas J. Miller Outdoor Track. Field events begin at 3:00 p.m. with running events following at 4:30 p.m. All attempts will be made to stay on schedule. Teams expected to compete include: Buena Vista University, Coe College, Loras College, Simpson College, University of Dubuque, and William Penn University.

Spartans Men's Tennis Keep Duhawks Winless in 2015

The University of Dubuque men's tennis team didn't need the victory on Wednesday afternoon to qualify for the 2015 IIAC Men's Tennis Team Tournament, they already had secured a qualifying spot locked up. The Spartans kept the visiting Loras College Duahwks winless in 2015 with a dominating 8-1 victory on Frank Farber Tennis Courts.

Three Spartans Named NFF Hampshire Society Members

The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced today the members of the 2015 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a high cumulative GPA throughout their college career. The University of Dubuque's Tyler Dobratz (TE, Edgerton, Wis./Wedgerton HS), Dylan Ramsey (DB, Urbana, Iowa/Center Point-Urbana HS), and Chris Scott (OL, Forreston, Ill./Forreston HS) were awarded the honors for the Spartans. The trio combined averaged cumulative grade point was an impressive 3.72 on a 4.0 scale.

Spartans Softball Open IIAC Tourney with Victory

The University of Dubuque softball team opened the IIAC Softball Tournament with a 7-3 victory over the #3 Simpson College Storm on Friday afternoon. The Storm were ranked #2 in the Midwest Region of the NCAA National Softball Rankings released on April 30. The Spartans opponents don't get any easier in the semifinal round where they will play the #2-seed, the Central College Dutch, on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Dutch are ranked #3 in the Midwest Region of the NCAA National Softball Rankings.

Spartan Baseball Clipped by Pair of Simpson Walk-Offs

The University of Dubuque baseball team surrendered a 6-2 lead in the final inning of game one in walk-off loss to Simpson, 7-6, and were outdone in game two, 5-4, thanks to Simpson's RBI-single in the bottom of the 11th on Friday afternoon. Both teams had been eliminated from Iowa Conference Tournament contention and had nothing to lose in their final series of the year.

The Spartans Josh Schuberg was in a three-way tie for runner-up, but placed third after the tie break. He shots rounds of 78, 73, 72, 74 to finish a +12 over Par score of 297.

Free admission on Thursday and $6 for adults and $3 for student on Friday and Saturday. Ticket gates open at noon on Friday and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. In the 2015 IIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships the Spartans women and men teams both placed third.

The University of Dubuque's Tyler Rutenbeck (WR, 6-3, 195, Sr., Maquoketa, Iowa/Maquoketa HS) officially was signed on Thursday, May 7 to the NFL's Washington Redskins. The Spartan standout was one of 11 undrafted free agents to be announced by the club as officially signing with the team this week. Teammate Darren Myles (DB, 6-3, 216, Sr., Atlanta, Ga./Carver HS) has been invited to attend the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings don’t announce names of the players brought in for tryouts.

The 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District® Baseball and Softball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The University of Dubuque's Victoria Woltz (Jr., 1B, Wykoff, Minn./Chatfield HS) earned First-team Academic All-District ® honors in softball. ​
