GRINNELL, Iowa - Sophomore Tanasha Atwater was the lone representative from the University of Dubuque women's track and field team and placed 12th in the shot put with a toss of 13.11m/43-0.25 at the Division III Indoor National Championships on Saturday afternoon.

Atwater, the 2016 Iowa Conference Indoor Shot Put champion, was the highest of two Iowa Conference finishers and needed nearly a foot-and-a-half to be named an All-American. The sophomore's qualifying mark and UD school record of 14.09m/46-2.75 would have placed her fifth overall. Kim Gallavan of Baldwin Wallace University won the national title with a new facility record of 14.71m/48-3.25.

It was Atwater's first career trip to the indoor national championships and came on the heels of a season where she broke the school record in both the weight throw and shot put and excluding a pair of last chance meets, she won 13 of her 16 throwing events, including the IIAC shot put title.

Atwater and Co. will prepare for their outdoor season opener on Saturday, April 2 at the Wartburg Select meet.
