Five Victories Lead to Runner Up Finish for Men's Track

MT. VERNON, Iowa - The University of Dubuque finished runner-up at the Cornell Hilltop Invite on Saturday afternoon despite five victories, including individual winners in Marcus Weathers, Jr. (60m), Nicholas Kazmierczak (Pole Vault), and Charles Jackson III (Triple Jump).

UD also claimed victory in the 4x200m relay and distance medley relay as they finished with 135 points. St. Ambrose took home the team title with 159 points in the six-team field. 

The distance medley relay team of Payton Nevills, Aaron Ofosu, Hunter Klose, and Alec Bass broke the school record after clocking a 10:44.64, nearly 35 seconds ahead of the field.

Weathers, Jr. led a 60m field that included four Spartans in the top six. His time of 7.22 just beat out UD's Jamey Foster (7.25).

Kazmierczak beat out five other competitors with a vault of 13-9.25, while teammate Alexander Schlueter (12-10) placed third.

After a Top-5 finish in the 60m dash, Jackson III continued his hot start to the indoor season with a winning leap of 43-3 in teh triple jump. He topped the field by over three feet.

Sophomore Scott Taylor placed Top-5 in both the weight throw (44-0.5) and shot put (42-2.25). His weight throw mark is now seventh all-time in school history.

The Spartans head to the Grinnell College Invite next Saturday, February 6 at 11:00 a.m.
