University of Dubuque Heritage Center Seeks Volunteer Ushers
Jul 27, 2015 | Kristi Lynch
Heritage Center, the University of Dubuque’s performing arts, worship, and campus center, will host two volunteer usher orientation and training sessions on Tuesday, August 18 and Thursday, August 20, 2015 – both at 6:00 p.m. in John and Alice Butler Hall.
The previous seasons were such successes that Heritage Center is expanding the volunteer usher corps numbers. UD seeks enthusiastic, customer-service oriented individuals to become volunteer ushers. The 2015-16 performing arts season begins September 2015 in the 1000-seat John and Alice Butler Hall and the 250-seat Babka Theatre. Volunteer ushers provide invaluable services by guiding patrons to their seats, distributing programs, answering questions, and most importantly, creating a pleasant, safe, and welcoming live performance environment. Ushers will have the unique opportunity to meet new friends, view quality performances, and get an insider’s look into the workings of a professional performing arts center. Volunteer ushers have become an integral part of Heritage Center staff and operations.
Volunteer ushers must possess excellent customer service skills, remain calm in emergency situations, work as a team member dedicated to patron service, and be able to climb stairs and stand for an extended period of time. Volunteer ushers must be 18 years of age to participate and also be able to adhere to a dress code. Each participant is required to complete a Volunteer Usher Orientation Class prior to starting work. Most events are held in the evening and/or weekends. Hours vary with each show. Additionally, there are some school shows during the day as well as matinee performances.

All tri-state area residents are invited and encouraged to consider this opportunity to be a vital part of Heritage Center offerings.
