Incite/Insight
features an ensemble of actors and musicians who create characters, scenes, and songs on the spot, in the style of short-form improvisation games. Topics for the games are based on either audience suggestions or prompts from the host, University of Iowa music professor Jeffrey Agrell.

Unlike any other chamber ensemble you have seen, the University of Iowa’s Latitude Ensemble performs concerts that are to a large extent improvised on the spot. The group creates pieces that have clear structure, varying timbres and textures, interesting melodies and rhythms, and a mix of both the familiar and surprises.  The ensemble is made up of strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion; players often switch (even during performances) from their main instrument to something else, including piano or small percussion instruments, body percussion, vocal sounds, spoken text, or even some kind of physical movement.

The audience will be challenged to take part by giving suggestions for pieces as well as occasionally participating in improvisation games. You have most likely never heard or seen such a one-of-a-kind performance, and certainly never will again!
