Julius Accounts for Four Goals in Defeat to Augustana

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Freshman midfielder Michael Julius scored three goals and dished out one assist as the University of Dubuque men’s lacrosse team fell to Augustana (Ill.), 20-7, on Saturday afternoon.

Julius scored one goal and dished out one assist early on as the Spartans (1-9, 0-2 CCIW) trailed 3-2 less than 10 minutes in. Augustana (8-5, 2-0 CCIW) flipped the switch and rattled off 10 straight goals to effectively put away the game and go into the break with a 13-3 advantage.

UD scored the first three goals of the second half behind goals from three different players and outshot the Vikings, 9-6, while outscoring them in the third quarter, 3-2. The Vikings outscored the Spartans by five in the fourth to seal the deal.

UD was heavily outmanned by the Vikings and were outshot, 58-22, and lost the ground ball battle, 41-26, over the course of the game, but kept it close (18-16 in shots and 15-14 in ground balls) in the second half.

Spartan goalkeeper Kyle Mullins anchored the defense with a game-high 13 saves.

The Spartans head to Illinois Wesleyan this Wednesday, April 20 at 3:00 p.m.
