Sablay Represents Men’s Tennis as Honorable Mention All-IIAC

Sophomore Matthew Sablay earned his second-straight Honorable Mention All-IIAC distinction as the Spartans primary No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles player.

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Sophomore Matthew Sablay paced the University of Dubuque men’s tennis team with 18 overall wins and finished 4-3 at No. 2 singles in Iowa Conference play en route to an Honorable Mention All-IIAC distinction.

The Rowland Heights, Calif. native led UD to its second-straight Iowa Conference team tournament berth while leading the Spartans in singles wins (11), doubles wins (7), IIAC singles wins (4), and IIAC doubles wins (3). Sablay finished with an overall record of 18-25 as the primary No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles player.

The 2014-15 Honorable Mention All-IIAC selection won two of his last three IIAC singles matches and was 6-1 in three-set bouts on the season.

Sablay aims to become first IIAC tournament singles place-winner since 2012-13 while leading a youthful Spartan squad that consisted of four sophomores and three freshmen in 2016.
