Softball Swept by Kohawks on Senior Day

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The visiting Coe College Kohawks spoiled the University of Dubuque's softball senior day activities after stopping the game after six innings in the opener with an 8-0 victory and winning game two by a 5-1 margin. This senior class of Andrea Smith, Tori Woltz, and Ainsley Billesbach won 61 games for Coach Wendi Wipperfurth and have played in three consecutive Iowa Conference Tournaments for the Spartans.

The visiting Kohawks jumped out to an early lead, grabbing a 4-0 lead in the first inning before the Spartans fought back and loaded the bases in the second inning before ending on a ground out without scoring. The Spartans were held to just two hits before the Kohawks scored two runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth and sixth innings to end the game after six innings. Nicole Blum and Gianna Kuras garnered the two hits.

The Kohawks would once again jump to an early lead by gaining two runs on two hits in game two's first inning. The Kohawks added three runs in the sixth before UD sliced into the lead in the bottom of the seventh after scoring one run on two hits. UD scored one run on five hits. Blum would earn the only extra base hit of the game for UD after a shot to left field in the bottom of the first.

The Spartans (8-24 overall, 1-9 in IIAC) will face the UW-Whitewater Warhawks on Monday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
