Baseball Falls in Season Opener

CLAYTON, Mo. - The University of Dubuque baseball team started their 2017 season on the road and lost the opener 6-11 to Millkin College.

UD's Wil Doherty had the hot bat, finishing the game 4-5 at the plate (.800) with a pair of RBI's. Eric Hall, Austin McWhite, and Michael Salazar would all end the day with two hits each. McWhite and Salazar both added a double as the team batting average sits at .351 after one day of action. UD committed four errors in 36 chances and would strand 12 batters on base. Reed Stumpf was credited with the loss, despite fanning eight Millkin batters. Trent Van Egtern, Brian Sholty, and Nathan Schneidermann all saw action on the mound and getting one inning of pitching. The quartet of pitchers combined for 11 strike outs and just three walks.

UD continues their season with a pair of nine inning contests against Fontbonne College beginning on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
