Errors Prove Costly in Softball Conference Opener

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team dropped both games of their Iowa Conference doubleheader on Saturday. The Spartans were stopped in the sixth inning after being outscored 1-11. UD led early in game two before the Knights rallied back to capture the sweep with a 9-2 win. Errors proved costly as the Spartans committed five errors in the first game and two in the second game.

In game one, UD scored one run on four hits while the Knights scored 11 runs on 14 hits. Taylor Allard had the lone double for the Spartans and Kayleigh Leddy tallied the lone RBI. UD grounded into 11 outs and flew out six times in the loss.

In the second game, UD led 1-0 through four innings before allowing nine runs in the final three innings of action. UD scored twice on seven hits and the Knights scored nine runs in 12 hits and played errorless. Courtney Markin and Brandy Heraty both ended with doubles with Heraty taking credit for both RBI's. At the plate UD grounded out 13 times and flew out five times.

The Spartans will play at Loras on Tuesday for the annual NFCA StrikeOut Cancer game beginning at 3:00 p.m.
